Does anyone know, will the PS4 allow play of PS3 games?

I'm leaning toward getting one, there are a lot of great games that I never played and I could really get into.

the answer is kinda. Because they are radically changing the architecture, previous PS games will not work directly on the PS4. So they are proposing to stream the old games to your ps4 from servers via the internet a la cloud gaming or OnLive.

Needless to say, plenty of people are not happy with this proposal, particularly as it will probably mean buying the game you already own again.

Ps1 games will probably still work.

Ps3 games will probably come out as doenloadable games though.

Nope! PS3 uses Cell, while PS4 uses x86. The PS4's CPU is not powerful enough to emulate the PS3.

What the early PS3s did was, they actually threw a PS2 chip into the same box. But than, that really wasn't cheap.

Considering how cheap PS3s are going to get, you might as well get a PS3

Man, next gen consoles are going to suck big time.

It's probably just best to pay a little extra and get a good PC over another console. :hmm2:

Because they don't have backwards compatibility? This generation barely had backwards compatibility and a majority of previous consoles didn't have backwards compatibility. It's only really Nintendo who's had backwards compatibility in most(but not all) of there stuff.

Not only because of that. Mainly because of all the online-only features. I just don't like the direction that these new consoles are going. :hmmm:

That wont work, because everything these days is a console port. And it's really hit or miss if the port works well.

Yeah, PS3 disc based games eventually will play through the PS4, with PSN games arriving first (easier to port).

With Sonys acquisition of Gaikai two years back, they paved the way for it to happen. I am hopeful that Sony may allow registration of disc based PS3 games we already own on this service to allow streaming access at no cost.

That said, I recognise that Sony have never been that generous before. I for one, will ensure I have a boxed PS3 ready to go, just in case.

There's no doubt that PS1, Ps2 and PS3 games will be available, Sony recognise the potential sales aspect in not only providing access to originals but also HD re-releases.
