So, I recently got into World of Tanks and got a video card so that I could actually enjoy it. My PC is pretty beardy processor and RAM wise, but the video card really made it scream (60+ FPS on max settings). I am a long time conse gamer and always wanted to try out the silent hunter thing and I feel I have a PC that can run it. I bought SH5 thinking that since it was the newest it had to be the best... But after reading some reviews... It seems people found it lackluster. Do these "MODs" fix this, or should I get SH4 instead? The cost isn't to much an issue seeing these games are so old and inexpensive.

What is better for a first time sub simmer?

Also, first post, so HI!

Welcome to the series!

Like you I bought SH5 on the faith of it being better then the others. BIG mistake especially at launch price, however after modding the game to Davy Jones Locker and back, I am actually enjoying the game now.

That being said, I still believe Silent Hunter 3 with GWX mod is 10x better then SH4 and 5. Granted it is very dated graphically now, but who plays the SH series for the graphics? :hmmm:

SH5 has come a long way. But it's not perfect for sure. I'm confident that once the Code has been deciphered the game could be Modding into an awesome sim. Right now I would say its pretty good. There are annoyances....but it's changed sooo much since stock that it really is about 5 times better then when it was released.

People say that SH3 with GWX (mega mod) is better than SH5. I can't talk to that since it's been so long since I played SH3/GWX. I'm hoping for the best out of SH5...it might be awhile before we see a great mega Mod. having said that the Mods are great.... bu plan to have 20 plus Mods to fit your style.
