Question: are the sh4 updates incremental or can you go straight from original installation to latest update?

Assuming that you have the stock game (v1.0), you can go right to the v1.4 update. Your other option is to find a copy of SH4: The Gold Edition. Not only does it have both the original game and the UBM expansion but updates the game to v1.5 which is the latest version available. :up:

I just installed 1.0 and updated to 1.4 and I keep having the game crash. I didn't install any mods, I just thought I would check it out stock. I started a career in the Asiatic fleet, set to hard and I was given a mission to go up to Taiwan and take pictures of a ship yard. I did that, was told that Manila was no longer available and my base of ops was moved to Java. I took out 3 ships for about 13,000 tons and was worried I couldn't make it to Java because of how far north I was. I made for Midway to refuel, got there and figured I could end in Pearl. Nope, had to go to Java. Half way back to Java game froze. Second time, I tried I had to engage shipping down toward Java. I was told Manila was no longer a base of ops, I got to Java, after having sunk 2 ships I refueled and the game froze again. Is there any way to see what keeps making it freeze? I have a new pc and since this game came out a few years ago, I am confused as to how it keeps doing this?

There could be a number of reasons why SH4 is not responding well on your computer. Listing your computer specs would help along with your operating system.

Next question. Which graphic driver version do you have installed? Also where do you have the game installed, what location or path?

Try installing the game in another location, not program files. Windows Vista, 7, 8 are fussy about this.

Like so: c:/Silent Hunter 4. Try this before anything else.

Also make sure you install the version of DirectX that comes with the game.
SH4 need some of the files in that version.
