End of war crash

How can I solve this one. Everytime I want to return to base, by means of ending the mission button the game keeps on crashing.
I have gone back a few save points and that hasen't helped either.
What are the good options if any to try and fix this.
This uboot made it throught the war from 1939, and it is now march 1945 and the game crashes.

my recommendation would be to sail all the way back to base, and hit escape and choose "Dock At:"

this is the only other way to end the mission other than suicide.

I tried that killing myself in despair and the game crashed. It doesn't crash immediately, only when clicking to go back to the menu.
