I sometimes find nice pics and pics that don't fall under the 'Funny' category, and there's nowhere to post them. So, here's a thread for all those nice looking, cool pics that you find on the internet.

Starting off with an unusual perspective to a common picture:

The pilot went through the roof of the commercial greenhouse in the background and suffered two broken lower legs and a broken thigh, and obvious cuts and bruises. The accident was in 1962, he was flying again within six months and back on Lightning test duties within a year. He retired in 1983, and gave up professional flying (exec and airline) when he reached 65 in 1993. Still holds a NPPL (basic licence but more restrictions due to age).

I've just looked at the crash location on Google Maps, the airfield is no more, but the greenhouses are still in the same location, albeit with new glass. :D

You can see the rear gunner standing up in this pic of a Japanese aircraft. The Allied pilot who took the pic, said the gunner stood up like he was going to bail out, but then he decided to just sit down again, and went in with the plane as it hit the water.

I don't think it did, the pilots were good, and the aircraft had a great ground effect going on, but the trick with the Bucc was a little microswitch on the undercarriage - once there was the slightest unloading on it the gear came up, the ground effect came into play and it'd just sit there. But it needed some runway before it'd happen, either that or the pilot's balls are so huge they stop it touching the deck.

What I'd like to know is how many trainee Bucc pilots came unstuck with the gear auto-raising. :o

This is the caption that was with the pic of the Bucc-

"From Colin Smedley comes this magnificent image that seems to show 55,000 pounds+ of Blackburn Buccaneer hovering over the runway. In the 1980s and 90s, No 208 Sqn RAF were the real experts in ultra low-level under the radar nuclear strikes. During the International Air Tattoo in 1993, to mark the squadron's 75th birthday, this Buccaneer S.2B was flown at an altitude of just 5 feet for the entire length of RAF Fairford's runway. From inside the massive strike aircraft, it must surely have felt as though they were actually in the ground. Thank God for ground effect. Photo Colin Smedley"

But I'm no expert on this aircraft, so I defer to those who know more about it then I do.:)

I will always have a soft spot for the F4... Growing up, they would come over the house once a month doing maneuvers above our area, and a couple of times they did low passes over a couple of the lakes around here. When i got older, i was lucky enough to work on them a couple of years before they were retired. LOVED watching them at the air show here, back when they still had air shows here. :yep:

This happened back in 1999 at Eglin AFB Florida. A Security Forces car drove under a parked F-15. Word about this got passed around to all troops working on flightlines the day after it happened.

Apparently there where two SPs(military police) in the car and the passenger fell ill so the driver started heading back to post.Along the way their hand held radio fell under the car seat and they reached down to grab it taking their eyes away from driving and veered into the path of the parked F-15 which stopped the car as you can see.

One crew chief had to jump clear of the cars path. The plane was fully loaded with fuel at the time and such was the weight and damage to the car they had to use the jaws of life to get the two SPs out.The typical flight line driving speed on any DOD base is 10 MPH.I wonder should the F-15 get one Chevy Lumina added to its kill list? The driver was female by the way proving the old adage about female drivers.

Damage to the F-15 was minor but as you can see goodbye 13,000 dollar car and about that much in repairs to the F-15.The SP driving the car had to pay remunerations over time of course. The Department of Defense expects remuneration to be payed by the guilty party when negligence is the cause of damages.

I had a breaker bar once actually break while I was trying to loosen a pesky bolt they tried to make me pay for it. I said no dice I was applying force in the correct direction proper tool use. They dropped it gald they did because would not have payed a dime.Air Force rivet counters are the ones that hell refused. Another friend that did airframe inspections a B-1B crashed that he had done x-rays on its turbines they where looking to lay the blame on him.Turned out that the pilot buzzed a corn field in North Dakota and sucked up some cobs.

In the Lumina case I think an Article 15 would have been justified why pay someone with tax dollars and then make them pay for something that tax dollars are going to pay for anyway? Ah, but I don't work for the government.

Rivet counters is what I, as a CE troop, used to call SP's. Cause all they seemed to do was stand around, or sit in their crown vic, with nothing to do but count rivets in aircraft. :O:

Some of the SPs would try to pay me to alert them when the NCOs and officers where on the prowl so they would not get caught sleeping on duty.

Every time one of those charter planes with the nice flight attendants came up the taxiway then all the SPs show up other wise they just sat there.

I had bean counters in my mind for some reason. In that case it was rivet counters getting hit up by bean counters.I bet that SP is still paying for that some E-9 or something way to make a career.

Despite that napping, you'd be amazed how fast they react when someone crosses the red line. It's like a pack of dogs on a 3 legged cat, and they ALL want to get in on the action.

I wasn't there, but It made it's rounds through the squadron. A guy had to do some maintaince on one of those sheds out along the flight line. I'm not sure what the deal was, forgot to radio in i guess, or didn't go through a checkpoint. So nevermind the flight line badge pined on his shirt pocket, he found himself spread eagle kissing his truck hood with five M-16's pointed at his head.

Figures at my last duty assignment, i ended up in zone 1. Which is the flight line and all the restricted area's around it. I never got jacked, but it was never a dull moment unless doing a lap around perimeter road to kill time.

Let's put this in perspective. They are so far away, you can't even hear it. It took several seconds for something going the speed of sound to reach them. The ginormous freighter in the video looks tiny. Now consider how big it looked. Imagine being right there.

Commenters figured the boat was somewhere in the order of 2.5 to 2.8 miles away, depending on their guess at humidity. This means they were some pretty severe lumps of earth falling back into the sea to make those splashes! The shockwave hitting the clouds at 0:13 was pretty cool too.

The volcano is in a location which is probably familiar to many SH4 players - on the headland of Raboul bay, a regular target for photo recon missions. http://www.volcano.si.edu/volcano.cfm?vn=252140

I'd wager at least six or seven; campers, Harry Truman, Reid Blackburn, David Johnston. IIRC a lot of the 57 deaths were from the mudslides that engulfed the rivers around the volcano.
From a scientific viewpoint the eruption was quite interesting in its lateral blast, but the human cost was terrible...but at least there was warning of its eruption and people were able to evacuate, otherwise the death toll would have been a multitude higher.

It’s already had three cataclysmic eruptions over the last 2 million years, covering much of North America in ash and creating the massive crater 40 kilometers long (25 miles long) and 60 kilometers wide (37 miles wide) that we now call Yellowstone National Park. But for the first time, scientists have imaged in 3D the whole magmatic network that makes up one of the world’s most dynamic volcanic systems, and they discovered enough magma to fill the Grand Canyon not just once or twice, but eleven times over.
This new research (http://unews.utah.edu/news_releases/scientists-see-deeper-yellowstone-magma/), carried out by a group of seismologists from the University of Utah (http://www.utah.edu/) and published in the journal Science (http://www.sciencemag.org/content/early/2015/04/22/science.aaa5648.abstract), has allowed scientists to solve a long-running mystery of how the already well-known shallower reservoir—which holds around 10,000 cubic kilometers (2,400 cubic miles) of magma just below the surface—connects with the magma plume that feeds it from 70 km (43 miles) down. The lower chamber adds 11,000 cubic miles of magma to the equation... http://www.rense.com/general31/overdue.htm (http://www.rense.com/general31/overdue.htm) Scientist have discovered that the ground in Yellowstone if 74cm higher than in was in 1923 - indicating a massive swelling underneath the park. The reservoir is filling with magma at an alarming rate. The volcano erupts with a near-clockwork cycle of every 600,000 years. The last eruption was more than 640,000 years ago - we are overdue for annihilation. At least it won't be cold!:dead:

I'll wait for Tchocky to confirm, but I reckon that's safe, the perspective is spot of for a small A300 being closer than the 777. Looks good though. :yeah:

Yeah, IIRC a lot of twitter and facebook types reposted it with the 'Near Miss' hype, and I think even the Beeb picked up on it...and then they realised that telephoto lenses existed.

Here's pprunes take on it: http://www.pprune.org/atc-issues/208698-near-miss-over-hammers.html

"Whoever built 'Puff' had a sick mind." said one soldier. "At night it looked like a red line of light coming from the heavens, like Hell leaking fire." "Once 'Puff' had done his work on an North Vietnamese Army company and we went out on patrol to count bodies," said another soldier. "We walked for about a mile and didn't see anything. First we could smell it, and then we couldn't believe what we saw. What was once 200 men was now a stream of slush. 'Puff' had shredded them to bits leaving nothing but communist mush. It was just like putting 200 men through a meat grinder. When Puff did his work there wasn't enough left to put in a bag and send home to Mama."
