A new Pope has been elected.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21777494

No name yet.

White smoke billowing from the Sistine Chapel chimney has announced to the world that cardinals gathered inside have elected a new Pope to head the Catholic Church. Crowds in St Peter's Square cheered and bells rang out as the smoke appeared.

Yes, he is the new leader of the Church, but is still "s simple human being" no better nor worse than you or me.

It seems past Popes were from Europe exclusively. I'm glad to see they thought outside the box and got someone from somewhere else. Nothing against Europe, I feel the past Popes served well. I expect to see some different ideas.

An interesting but not a bad choice, from an up and coming continent, and a humble working class type, however he's a hefty traditionalist and conservative...so don't expect any movement from the church on homosexuality or anything like that.

Don't expect anything on homosexuality or other kind of related issures soon. There is a lot of research behind the decisions, not just one man deciding "what is right."

We were doing a job in Rochester, NY.
The Pope at that time was ill and did pass away after a time.
This Guy was a 'Made Guy' not doubts!
He was also Catholic.
The many reports of the health had him running alot at the time.

I recall him comeing back to the bar we would hit after work and saying...
"The SOB is still alive!"
I stated my question as to why it bothered him so much that he wasn't dead yet?

His reply..............

"It wouldn't take me this much time to get it over with!"

Yes, everybody is pretty excited.

A little story. A few minutes ago I called my mum. I have a hearing tomorrow morning, my wife has some meetings and the lady who assists us with the kids has an appointment with the doctor (breasts implants? who cares...) I need help and in a hurry.

My mum is anti-catholic (but somehow sent her sons to a catholic school) and have an anti church rethoric. She picked the phone in tears and she could not stop speaking about how a good days this is. I interrupted her to comment my urgency and, seconds after that, she resumed talking about Bergoglio.

This is the current mood in here.

Some not-so-nice stories surfacing about Bergoglio's complicity with the military dictatorship, such as hiding political prisoners from human rights officials in his country house. I wonder what will come of all of this.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2011/jan/04/argenitina-videla-bergoglio-repentance

He recounts how the Argentine navy with the connivance of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, now the Jesuit archbishop of Buenos Aires, hid from a visiting delegation of the Inter-American Human Rights (http://www.guardian.co.uk/law/human-rights) Commission the dictatorship's political prisoners. Bergoglio was hiding them in nothing less than his holiday home in an island called El Silencio in the River Plate.

After the hype, his start already showed me what to expect from this guy (a Jesuit elite-christian and thus more radical than a pope by default definition already is anyway). Already in his first preaching he has - copying best hate-preaching tradition of Islamic fundamentalists - demonized non-believers, saying those who do not believe in his idol are praying to Satan instead.

One expects that from some province cleric from the woods behind the mountain. In his position, one should expect less medieval hate-sowing from a representative.

I always had much love for popes and church and all that :D , but I think I will especially love this haughty fanatical bastard. Why is it that no charges over diffamation and hate-crime get filed against him - but people like me being threatend with getting prosecuted over blasphemy when attacking the church over criminal finance management, for example?

Didn't Carol Burnett do a sketch on that? :D

A spoof on "Gone With the Wind." She made a dress out of curtains, complete with the curtain rod.

:har:

And by the way Jim. :har:
