They say this is just the USA so that means most of the rest of ya'll don't have to worry and probably won't even feel it unless your at sea or under the sea or something like that.

At 2 a.m. this Sunday, most of the United States (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/United+States) will move its clocks an hour ahead to 3 a.m. In theory, that slight nudge conserves energy. In practice, it seems daylight saving time hardly saves energy at all.

In some cases, it actually increases energy consumption.
In Indiana (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/Indiana), daylight saving time caused a 1 percent jump in electricity, according to a 2010 study. The energy saved from reduced lighting was canceled out by an increase in the use of heating and air conditioning, the researchers from Yale University (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/Yale+University) and University of California Santa Barbara (http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/University+of+California-Santa+Barbara) said.

Winter time is the normal time. You're saying Slovenia should move their clock 1 hour forward and keep it that way the year around. Many people in Finland want that too, me included.

Normal is stupid.

I don't care if it's dark or light at 7 AM when I go to work. But when I get home at 3 PM I have (in december) 1 hour light in winter time and 2 hours if we still had summer time.

Finnland must be worse since you have longer nights in winter

Easy but our farmers don't know how to change their alarm clocks, result we all have to suffer. :shifty:

:up:Good old time travel.

Methinks it was instituted more toward providing extra sunlight on the golf course for the elected after work than to save on power consumption. I've also heard the excuse that it prevents the kids from having to wait for the school bus in the dark.

My maternal grandfather never bothered with this silliness and planned his days according to that nuclear clock that shines on us every day.:sunny:

I thought the reason for daylight savings was to help the farmers. However, the farmers I grew up around never paid any attention to it. They still got up when it was dark, and went to bed when it was dark.

I think it is something we can get rid of. Especially when politicians seem to have the ability to change when it happens. :/\\!!

I'm under the impression that it was first used during the First World War to conserve energy. If I remember correctly, it was the Central Powers that took it up first, later followed by the Allies. I do know that it was proposed in the modern world by George Hudson, but even the Romans used some form of it, resorting to different seasonal settings on their water clocks; sort of an 'unequal time'.

EDIT: Here's a fairly scholarly article on the matter regarding it's use as far as the late Middle Ages, if you are inclined to do some moderate reading.

Hey man...don't be dissing the farmers. Without them you wouldn't have any food.

And farmers don't need alarm clocks if they have a rooster or two... :D

I know tons of farmers. I live smack in the middle of a whole lot of them and they know how to operate an alarm clock..... They know how to do more than you think. :stare:

Oh man, I completely missed this :o

Woke up this am at 7:30. Got a cup of Joe, answered a text from my boss asking me to open the store at 10. I said, sure, ok. Went and played some SimCity, checked email... Checked the time on my trusty Subsim wall clock: 8:25. Ok, cool, I have 20 minutes... hmmm... why does my PC say 9:25? :06: WTH, did my PC get a virus...?

Maybe my clock is wrong. Just a little panic here... went in the bedroom and checked, no, bedroom clock says 8:25, kitchen clock says 8:25...

Went back into the office...PC clock now says 9:27... wait, was today spring leap forward day or whatever...? WTH again? I didn't hear anything about it... oh, oh, it is! :dead:

Raced off to work, was only 5 minutes late, and still beat the other guys in.
"You guys didn't forget to set your clocks ahead an hour last night, did you?"

Great story there....that happened to me one time but instead of getting where you need to go just barely late....I showed up at church an hour late.

I've heard that one too. I always wondered: If that was the case wouldn't it be of more use in the winter than the summer?

Why don't we send a big petition to congress asking to get rid of Daylight Savings Time or something. I'm not sure who actually is in charge of that...I'm assuming it's Congress. :hmmm:

Wrong. Kids get to do stuff outside later because of daylight saving here. Although the kids opposite me do keep me up all night sometimes :/\\!!

Daylight Saving Time 2013 is here and you have to change your clocks forward even if you hate this stupid idea

Daylight Saving Time is beginning today and the whole nation seems to be on clock forwarding spree. It is very important to forward the time, otherwise you will get lost in the world tomorrow with you turning up by one hour late wherever you go. So everyone who lives in the US needs to change the clock forward by one hour. This is a practice that we have been forced to follow religiously without fail for decades now.

Sometimes ago there was an “End Daylight Saving Time” petition on the internet by some disgruntled Americans who wanted to end this nuisance. But apparently this was not high on people’s minds so it didn’t get enough backers to get White House act on the issue. But no thought has been put in scrapping it right now. And I fear there is no hope in near future either to scrap this useless tradition.
