The Microprose brand (http://microprose.com/about/) has surfaced once again but their games portfolio sadly bears little resemblance to its illustrious predecessor.
The "about us" text from the site shows how little regard they have for their name's pedigree...
"Microprose is an Executive Producer Company of video games, partnering with Development studios to create and exploit games for a variety of platforms. Microprose is now increasing its focus on online and wireless platforms. As part of the CYBERGUN GROUP, leader in airsoft guns products, Microprose has access to officially licensed weapons which makes its positioning unique in this market segment."
They got the exploit part right!

WHAT?! A game dev that also helps make weapons.
If they did good games, well, it'd be perfect. But no....this crap....

Not really, unless you classify airsoft as weapons. Personally, i'm not into airsoft. I think it's a bad idea making toys that look exactly like real guns.

Isn't this old news? I'm sure I heard about this at least a couple of years ago. In any case, this is far from the same company as the real MicroProse; they have the name, sure, but I seriously doubt there's any of the old MicroProse's people involved with it, and I don't think they have any of the IPs of their games. So there's probably not much here beyond the abuse of MicroProse's name...

I think this is a second rebirth I believe the last licensors of the name, a few years back, used it in connection with cheap joysticks & other peripherals although they at least did have ambitions to create simulation games but it never came to anything. This seems to be a new venture, but again represents a wasted opportunity.

I've played a couple of their old games. They were good considering the time period. I wish they made games like those with updated graphics, gameplay, etc.

Airsoft....depending on the state the guns can be considered weapons. Airsoft is kind of fun. It has nothing on paintball though.

Tho I also doubt they're anything like the origian MicroProse, but I do wish they'd get with Atari and redo B-17 Flying Fortress "The Mighty 8th". For it's time it was one of the better WWII campaign flightsims. Tho never finished as it should be for multiplayer. And was also expensive back in 2000 at $45.00 a pop.
I think Shockwave owns the rights to "The Mighty 8th". :hmm2:
