Anybody had these black spots before? At first I thought a DD was firing 5 inch shells at me...but it appears randomly. Also at the same time there was a black fog/cloud over the convoy i was chasing..... this happened for a minute or so then went away. Very Strange. MODs/Specs below.
Same here, but rarely (thanks god) and sometimes much bigger!
Always thought it was nvidia related.
Mouving view in all directions can solve it usually.

never seen such view using nVidia card..
Never seen that either with an NVidia card.
Are you sure it's not something on you screen? Just teasing. ;)

I´m using Nvidia GTX 470 and I have seen these, but they go away if i move my view couple of times.
It could be caused by the Drivers you have installed Finch. One way to check is to back to an older one and see what happens. You can always return to a newer one anytime.

Yeah.....might try rolling back the drivers. I've got the latest and greatest drives from Nvidia. I'm noticing this happening a lot now. Just pulled out of port and i'm getting the random Black blotches (TM ?? haha) near the boat. When returning to port from the previous patrol.....Heligoland Island was completely covered in the "black fog" for a bit.
Having some random game stutters near convoys too. Basically when I attack a convoy....a moment before impact of a torpedo I get a pause....then random pauses as the fireworks of starshells/flares/explosions in the chaos that follows. It's not bad...but its noticable. Think i'm going to have to figure out how to set up my system better to maximize performance.....any advice givers or links to good info? My system is tip top...so I was a little taken back when this happens.... but i'm not very savvy with max performance set up.
Not sure about older drivers.
Was using old drivers, and it was the same.
Latest nvidias have same results.
But again it's happening quite rarely, and since my last complete reinstall without messing too much with mods, i didn't see it again yet.

There is an IRAI patch that removes starshells from the game. I believe there is a bug with starshells. On my system things slow to a near crawl when attacking a large convoy with starshells. Attacking the same convoy with the patch enabled, my problems went away. I have a single 560ti, 4gbs ram, i-2500k so your system should be able to handle the same large convoys.

Well I love the star shells! Does the patch get rid of them or just make it less buggy/antifast?

I have an ATI Radeon HD 5870. I haven't played SH5 enough to know if I will see the black spots BUT, I have been playing SH4 quite a bit and I have seen the black spots a few times. :hmmm:

I used to see these all the time in the past, quite annoying actually. I couldn't find a thread on it back then so I thought I was the only one with that problem. I also use NVIDIA (dual 460), I found that by enabling SLI it seemed to solve the problem. Not sure why that would help, but it's been my experience that it has.
Of note, it would seem that the appearance of black spots only occurs when there is a ship (or ships) in the distance. I tested this with external camera. When you see the LARGE black spot you can follow that bearing and just like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow you can bet on a ship somewhere down the horizon on that same line of sight.
Although not exactly realistic, I took full advantage of this "perk" once I realized the implication and adjusted my intercept course accordingly!
