Ok, so I recently got star shells back into my game which was a headache but worth it because I really like the star shells even though they are suicide on patrol. I usually launch them around home port and just for fun. But I was wondering what I need to edit to reduce the range of star shells? And what do I need to edit to increase/decrease their burning time? I'm trying to make it so they explode sooner (short distance/range) and burn a little longer.

Shells.sim
Detonation range is set for 6000.

Burn time and such is in the particles.dat
Burn time is set for 60 seconds.

Ok, my next question is what hex value do I need to edit in the Shell.sim file? I think I'll leave the particles.dat alone. 60 seconds is fine. I would just like to shorten the distance/range of the star shells in the shell.sim file.

Open Shells.sim with S3D and change this setting.

For months I tried to figure out some practical use for those things. The only thing I could come up with is deck gun attacks on blackest night.

Are these things historical, and if so, does anyone know how they were used?
