So, i'm about to start my 11th patrol on my career. I have a ton of saves, like 70-something or another on this one career. Is there a way to clean some of these off? Or, are they vital to the career?

Just wondering, thanks! :06:

As the warning says on that page, deleting anything previous to your current save will also delete all that comes after it. Found that out the hard way. :wah:

Isn't it the case that deleting a save only deletes those before it?

As U-Crank stated, it says anything after. Which is why i was asking, hoping there was a trick to it. I made a backup of my career, and then tried to delete an earlier save. By doing that it deleted all of the ones after it, including my current save. I had to restore the files.

Doesn't make sense why it is done this way. At least not to me. :hmmm:

My guess would be it has to keep them in order to keep all the totals of your career stats up to date/correct. If it let you delete several saves with sinkings in them, to the sim, it would be like they never happened.

Think it would be best to keep them for the reason HW3 says.

Where are these saves located and how much space on a HDD do they require? Just curious as my "game" drive is quite full:)

I have 3 careers going presently and all of them take up 5mb! So not much. :salute:

That's good to know. I won't worry about it now.

It really depends on how many saves you make, and how many patrols you made. The data per save starts small, but at the end of the patrol mine usually are more than a megabyte per save.

Of course your mileage may vary with mods or not. Mine is GWX3

Precisely...saves tend to be exponential.

I got plenty of room, not worried about that one myself. However, i tend to be a bit of a neat freak sometimes, and just wanted my save screen to look, not so cluttered. :D

You can delete anything prior to your last save with no effect on the game as long as you keep the file called 'career.cfg' (it's the only file in your savegames folder with a unique name). It's that file that keeps track of all of your patrols - open it up with notepad and it'll give you all the information you need. I believe it's also this file that SH3 Cmmander reads for the realistic ship information.

I run over 15 careers to help me with testing new mods (two for each year plus a few 'play' careers) and when I want to clean up I keep the last three savegames and delete the rest.

I recommend you back up before messing with the careers folder... just in case!

:hmmm: I will have to give that a go, as I have a good backup. Thanks WB!
