For me, the most common mistake I make is running on the surface in an attack. I go to the UZO and lock target, lose target, lock target, lose targe then miss a key and hit "snorkel depth" instead. Just one key to the right of "L". End up looking like a skimming stone.:oops:

The lock and loose game happens only while 'out of range'.
However - if you lock on and switch to an other view, the lock is persistent until you come back to the UZO view.

No need to hustle mate, but if you still get too excited at your helm - here is a solution for you:

In [C:\GAMES]...\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg\Commands_en.c fg

[Cmd195]
Name=Snorkel_depth
Ctxt=1
MnID=0x3F450006
Str=1033
Key0=0xBA,C,"Comma"

add a leading ";" to the 'Key' line to make the game ignore the key
;Key0=0xBA,C,"Comma"

or

add a "s" between the commata to make it function with 'Shift' only
Key0=0xBA,Cs,"Comma"

...the demands of our great leader - who calls for more and more when we give so much already.
the sliding tables of the ocean where we float like sardine
cans waiting to be crushed and thrown to the bottom dead as stones.

the crying of my young crew who puke into their dinners and leave their words
splashed on the gratings, torpedos, bed clothes.
the stench of diesel, the wretched mess of men in sweating oily clothes
bedraggled and tired dreaming of home.

the young pale faces with their first fluffy beards and wild frightened eyes
wimpering for their mothers at night through restless sleep.
the endless shifting mountains of the sea that care nothing for me or mine,
my memory - the men who sail with me - the meaningless days we pass through like fog.

the searching and watching - the endless searching and listening for ships too
far away for breaking and sinking - the tons and tons we are supposed to be
chasing.

a photograph lies close to my heart.

the medals for exhausted chests, the grey salt washed clothing, the beers and girls
promised at home,

the clean bright sunlight that warms our faces; the quiet cafe's on backstreets
a breeze through the trees in summer, the long still evenings in a field and her firm
warm body pressed beneath me.

My biggest headache lately (in SH3, 5 is another story) is my visually impaired watch officer while playing with the assisted plotting mod, which adds a whole new dimension.

Clear day, fat tanker sitting 6000m off our starboard, clear as anything and sometimes he sees it, sometimes he doesn't.

Someone needs to mod in keelhauling.
