View Full Version : Engine Sound Keeps Vanishing

My engine sound keeps vanishing. I can't seem to pin it down, but it seems to happen more when I use time compression at high levels. but once I lose it I can't get with back, even by changing speed, switching between internal and external views etc.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm running a Dell E5500 laptop with windows 7, and my sound drivers are all up to date.

I'm using NYGM with the following mods:

Stiebler4B_Addon_for_V16B1
SH3_Commander_Updates_for_NYGM
NYGM Tonnage War V2.5 – Stand Alone Version
NYGM3_New
NYGM3_6B
Merchant_Fleet_Mod_3.2
MFM_v3_Skin_Packs
MFM-Interim-Beta_NYGM
MaGui F
MaGui F FIX for NYGM3.4
CaptainAmericaOfficerIcons
Das Boot Clothes
Enhanced Nav Map Plotting Tools
1500 meter bearing overlay
KB's Diesel Sound Mod
Radio Deutschland
Restore Gods Eye View
GWX_ICONS
Harbor Traffic Add-In

I've tried it both with and without the KB's Diesel Sound Mod too, really stumped!

If it's any consolation I have this problem almost constantly. I'm using a different computer than you and a different supermod (GWX), so maybe it's a Win7 issue?

Actually, it could be a SH3 issue. Howling winds can also be experienced when you are at periscope depth, after having previously been on the surface and the conningtower.

The solution is to sit it out, waiting for it to go away. Or save the game and restart.

[EDIT]Is it just the sound, or does the crew refuse to operate the engines, and speed dies out too? Because you may also have a fatigue issue.

Thanks for the replies Kaleuns, yes it may be windows 7 issue, wonder if anyone has suffered this on XP? I'll experiment with the compatibility mode and try running the game as admin.

Also, yes, its purely the engine sound, the game runs fine otherwise.

I may be imagining things too, but I have a feeling its got worse since I switched from a type VII to a IXC, and have been doing trans-atlantic runs at high TC. Having said that, sometimes it just happens whilst playing in real time too.

I've had this problem too, also with constant '260m level' hull creaking even on the surface. This (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=202167) was the thread on it, sounds like the issues may be linked.

It normally happens when I'm on the bridge and speed up to 32x TC the engine noise stops, then when I drop down to 1x TC it stays silent. If I change engine speed it starts up again though, don't normally have to do a restart.

But no idea how to fix I'm afraid, sorry :hmmm:

Yes, on a fairly regular basis. As Pisces just said, it's almost certainly a problem withing the game itself. I just learned to ignore it.

"Yeah, Herr Kaleun's hearing things again. We stay away from him when he has these episodes, because aside from mumbling about wind inside the boat he's a good captain, and we love him."

I haven't experienced those effects in the time I have used this: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=978

Very reliable.

@Rconch thanks, so far so good! Great mod, although I might try to remove some of the sounds, to default to the original ones. I'm not too keen on the cheering when a torpedo hits, and a couple of others.

Awesome, time to sink some ships off the coast of Cuba!

Try pressing the escape button, minimize the game to desktop and then bring it back up again. That works for me.

I kind of like the cheering on a hit. I think a crew would respond to success. Its the no cheering after a hit that bothers me. :wah:

What sound mod are you using?

I use DBSM, my crew does not cheer when I hit a neutral. Dead silence.:)
