Hi all,
i'm having vast amounts of trouble locating targets/convoys/taskforces. it got to the point where to complete one of the first missions, the one on the east coast of england, i had to ninja into a port and start smashing up targets in there. i'm having zero luck finding anything at open sea.:wah::wah:
i've tried zigzagging, riding around on the surface sitting still, i have time compression on 250-ish cau ei know that affects what contacts you get, but still nothing.
on a side note, how do i get mods to work with the steam version of the game?

From all accounts, mods with the steam version are a problem. Get a hard copy of the game. It's only like 5 or 10 bucks.
Are you using Open Horizons? If so it is very realistic, meaning that I've gone a month (game time) before without seeing any ships.
Also study the shipping lane map and try to hang out around those. Or hang out closer to enemy ports where ships will be coming in and out.

Rave,
Do you use the Hydrophone?? Do you radio your position an status from time to time?
There's a map someplace that shows the shipping routes. Get that and print it out so you know where they'll be running. Even your SH3 map will give you a general idea. As long as you're near a shipping route, the hydrophone guy will pick up on ships out there. But know too you could end up waiting days for contacts, but eventually you'll meet up with merchants or trouble..... as in a task force. ;) :salute:

Rave,
I do Hydrophone checks every two hours while in my patrol area or where I think there should be enemy ships. You can hear a lot farther than you can see.

If you are late in the game, you can operate with a snorkel and at snorkel depth and use the hydrophone constantly at the cost of higher fuel consumption to obtain higher speeds, due to the hydrodynamic efficiency if the U-boat.
