Is there a detailed list of which mods are to be used with other mods and in what order they should be entered into JSGME etc...?

Thanks

Welcome to the boat mate. :salute:

TMO and RFB are the biggest super mods and there are versions of RSRD and OTC to use with each. You can't use TMO and RFB together, one or the other. They have environmental mods incorperated into them so don't use any environmental mod with them.

Pick your supermod and add any patches and load that first.
Than load the proper version of RSRD if you want to use that.

Next load OTC if you use that. If you don't use OTC you can use Max Optics and SCAF if you want.

You must read all the documentation for each mod.
Put in each mod one at a time and run the game to see how it works and than add another if all is ok. Keep it simple till you see what is going on.

From this point on there are so many mods it's impossible to make any list.

Best advice I can give you is to make a clean install and before you do anything else make a copy of the Data folder and keep it safe, if things get messed up and they no doubt will, all you need to do is copy the safe data folder in place of the old one. All mods work in this folder. JSGME does a good job keeping track of things but even it has limits.

Install the game in a new folder not program files folder.
Do not use the default SH4.gu to launch the game but find SH4.exe and use that.

I myself use TMO sometimes with RSRD sometimes not.
Right now I'm using SCAF and Max Optics, bad eyes. :wah:
When I finish this career going to OTC.

Others I use are
EAXsound
Map labels 1.3
Webster's better air patrols
OPCFv1.2_yellow_SCAFfor1.5
That's about it.

Good luck and good hunting

Welcome to the community :woot:

In addition,

Compare your game version to the MOD version... Game version 1.5 doesn't do well with MOD's for 1.4 and vise versa.
When adding a extra MOD to the MEGA MOD and the MEGA MOD it isn't mentioned in the README you can be sure the extra MOD you put on top of the MEGA MOD will not work with it. (although there are exceptions to that rule ).

There are some threads which have MOD lists and som have comments on how to install them with JSGME.

Welcome aboard Fender. Given your name, I think I'll have you check the ballast tanks for leaks.

The mod set-up I use is:
TMO 2.5
TMO 2.5 small patch
Improved Stock Environment v3
RSRDC TMO v502
MaxOptics IV

There are so many mods available, that it is difficult to suggest any kind of set-up. Start with one of the supermods, then experiment from there.

I would second this. If you can find it, get the Gold Edition v1.5. All the latest mods are based on this.

Fireftr18, In the write up for Improved Stock Envronment v3 I thought it said not to use it with any super mods. Then there was a reference to RSRDC and TMO. I see that you use it with both. Have you had any problems running it with those two mods?

There is a version specifically for TMO. It seems to run well.

Gentlemen, thank you for your quick and helpful reply's to my post.
I apologize for not responding quicker, I have been playing the mods
that were suggested and am in awe of the people who created them.
Their mods are works of art ! I hope one day, that I will have just a
basic understanding as to how they created them.

Bravo Zulu gentlemen.

Hey everyone, I really want to start plain this game because I have had it for a month. However I've noticed the damage mechanics (flooding, fire damage, etc.) for this whole serious is kinda crap. So I'm wondering if either operation monsun or RSRDC modify the damage mechanics of your targets, if not does anyone use a good damage mechanics that is compatible with the two mods I just mentioned?

BillBam

RSRD is strictly a campaign MOD and has no affect on game play, only the traffic patterns. I believe TMO has modified the sinking mechanics a bit and RFB goes even further but not totally sure.

Welcome aboard JGfan!! :salute:

Go check the fuel cell for leaks. Use a lighter if you need to.

Both TMO and RFB change the damage model and make it much better. They just don't play well together. They make changes to a lot of the same files and if you mix them, you will make the game unstable.
For an even better damage model, you can add Traveller mod to either TMO or RFB.

Thanks for the quick response everyone, I have noticed in the operation monsun threads it says RFB is not compatible with it. Is this truly the case? If so what would you recommend for damage mechanics that are compatible with operation monsun?

Sailor Steve
04-24-13, 10:33 AM
Op Monsun has its own damage mechanics. The reason they aren't compatible is that RFB and TMO are for the US fleet boats and OM is strictly for u-boats. The best thing is to use MultiSH4 and have an installation for each game.

Another way works if you are using JSGME. I create a separate modlist such as Operation Monsun.mep to play Operation Monsun. All I have to do later is make unique games saves to match the current modlist being used. Save examples: Operation Monsun1, Operation Monsun2.

Other examples: TMO, TMO & RSRD.

If I want to play TMO later on. All I have to do is unenable all Monsun mods. Create or load/enable a previous TMO.mep. Start a TMO campaign or mission. Then save TMO campaigns/missions to match the current TMO modlist being used. Save examples: TMO1, TMO2.

All you guys on this site are legitimately the best support I've seen. I think having that multish4 mod will work out well but does anyone use that to have one install of SH4 with U-boat missions and one without? Or could I just create two installs of SH4 with u boat missions and mod one for US campaign and one for german campaign?

Sailor Steve
04-24-13, 06:42 PM
You can create multiple installations without MultiSH4, but it works better with it. The program allows you to route the different installs into different folders, and keeps track of them all.

You'll be better off using 1.5 U-Boat Missons for both, as it upgrades the American side too, and all the newer mods were made just for that version. With Multi-SH4 you can have as many installations as you like, One for German with OM, one for American with RFB, one with TMO, and even an extra for stock to use when testing mods.

Last question, since I downloaded the game and the expansion pack separate do I have to do a multi install of both the game and the expansion pack or does the expansion pack already change the sh4 files so I only have to multi install the game itself? I'm looking through all of my files and I can't quite tell what is saved where on my system.

Sailor Steve
04-24-13, 09:56 PM
If by the "expansion pack" you mean U-Boat Missions, then you want to patch the game with it and work the multiple installs after. UBM patches the game to 1.5, which most of the newer mods are made to work with. You don't ever want to play the original game without it.

Imo, you can't have multiple copy with Steam, or need an application to switch them.

I figured out a way to do it!!! I just put my new copy of sh4 in the same folder as the original steam folder so if anyone else has this problem there is a workaround. E.g. For my system I put the new copy in computer/steamapps/common and put it with the rest of my steam downloaded games, ran multish4 and it works like a charm.
