One thing comes to my mind which so far has not been covered and that is... Fraud. But the media seems to bang on about the horse meat.

Horse is much better than 'pink slime', most fast food is made of.
Certainly, calling a horse a horse would have been appropriate :-?

Plus of course fraud was covered over here last month when one of the factories unsurprisingly turned out to be run by a fraudster who caused a food scandal back in the '80s.

Horse meat has to be better than mule meat, or them bouncy kangaroos. I remember some places here in the States actually had horse meat on the menu at one time. And I also remember Carrol's Hamburgers [a McDonald's competitor back in the 60s] being put out of business for selling mule meat in their burgers.

Now I hear its gone global and criminals are behind it all, still not using the word I'm looking for..FRAUD.

I tried horse meat (paardenvlees) in Belgium and Holland whilst living over there...as I recall it tasted a little sweeter than beef but the main put off for me was the fact I knew what I was eating.

I'm not bothered about the what kind of meat it is, the media just carps on about its horse meat oh my what the hell is going on..horse meat! And so on, its like the media and the government are making effort to cover up the FRAUD word. I have noticed this in the bank scandals as well by dropping fraud for miss selling and miss guided advice. In both cases the act of fraud has been committed.

There is nothing wrong with any of those meats, as long as they are sold for what they are and have not been given drugs which are banned for use in meat destined for human consumption.

CAPLOCK strikes.:rotfl2:
The word FRAUD is in the headline and is used again several times through the article.
They even expand on the word you are blind to with the use of "fraudulent" at one point.

Unable to open the link yesterday due to a error message coming up! Was able to find another way today. So the Guardian used the word but the TV news so far has not. Forgive me for being a arsehole but I'm suffering from a number of medical problems and the pills don't help much.

Rumania is now being investigated as the possible source:

The Romanian government is investigating if horsemeat discovered in beef products in Britain and France came from an abattoir in Romania.

I don't think fraud has got anything to do with it, per sae, but the desire and drive for cheap meat.

If anyone is to blame, ironically, it's the consumer or conversely, the system in which the consumer is in.

We live in a world where the cost of living is creeping up higher than the rate of pay and is continuing to do so. Food prices are steadily increasing whilst governments try tell their people to stop eating cheap junk food and eat expensive healthy food. Supermarkets are under pressure from consumers to keep prices at low levels, whilst also being under pressure from their shareholders and executives to make a profit.
Into this picture come a few men who, for a lower cost than the usual suppliers, promise that they can deliver some nice cheap meat. They don't specify its contents, and the people that they are delivering to don't really care what the contents are as long as they are cheaper than the current suppliers. The consumer casts a cursory eye over the contents, but most of the time it could say on the list of ingredients that it contains Horse meat, cyanide and Polonium because few people actually read it.

So at the end of the day I'm not surprised something like this has happened, and I'd also be not surprised to find that it is a widespread phenomenon, nor will I be surprised to find that at the end of all this a scapegoat will be found and prosecuted, but the conditions that lead to this happening will not be addressed because, simply because I don't believe that they can be.

Of course its fraud Oberon, fraud on a massive scale.
Where do you think the celebrities offload thier herds of worthless piebalds you can find grazing on other peoples land throughout towns and villages in your or my country?
Goodman has a long history of carousel tax fraud and mislabeling meat in both countries as well as throughout the EU and across N.africa and the mid east. The expansion of the EU has just widened the easy european sources for the fraud plus as a bonus the economic crisis has collapsed to a great extent the price of horses.

I thought they went to Rebekah Brooks?
Anyway, aren't most horses in Ireland found on housing estates? Or in music videos by the Rubberbandits? :O:
Not surprised about Goodman though, and I'm honestly quite surprised that something of this scale hasn't happened sooner, although like you say, the expansion of the EU has made it even easier to export. I expect that he will come out of this as one of the scapegoats, and I shan't be sorry to see that at all, but I think that this runs wider than just Goodman, but he's certainly one of the tips of the iceberg and probably the most visible.

If you don't like horse meat, here, try some of this Soylent Green. The morticians association and the amalgamated cemetary union will be screaming FRAUD! as they go bankrupt.

The governments will spew their propaganda and cite it as the best way to conserve farm land and the slogan will be..
Homo Sapiens is nutritious and good for you.

And we saw the engravings on the Georgia Guide stones come to pass and it was good.
