Hello all! :)
I am a new member to this site, and to Submarine Simulators/Games in general. Found Silent Hunter III at a local game store for 10 bucks - and simply couldn't resist. As it turns out, it was a great decision.
Only been playing for a couple of days, but it is truly breathtaking.
Anyhow, I have been looking at some of the modifications, but there are simply so many of them that I do not know what to choose!
From what I gather GWX, SH3 Commander and Living Silent Hunter, amongst others. I would glady appreciate any guidance from SHIII Veterans :)
But anyhow - hello again! Hope I will add something of value to this great community :)

Welcome aboard matey http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/welcome.gif
I'd suggest you do a few patrols to get used to the simulation then go to the relevant sections of the forum to enquire about options and possibilities.

Grab an oar.
Don't mind the chains and shackles. You'll get used to them.:stare:

Welcome to Subsim, Aarnoman :sunny:
Regarding SH3 i was blown away on how good it was out of the box. Until you saw what the modders did to it .. you can read a bit about the mods in the SH3 subforum, get JSGME and install the GWX Gold mod - links for download should be all over the forum :)
All the best,

Welcome aboard. I did have a nice cushy job for you, but it looks like Wolferz already got hold of you. It's difficult to be special assistant to She-Wolf and Donna if you're chained up. Oh well, you can just hang out in the bilge with the rest of us.

What can I say? This boat needs propulsion. She-wolf can have the next conscript. Donna? Forgeddaboutit.

Hello Aarnoman, Subsims is THE place to be for friendly advice, good guidance and a bit o rib-tickling. There are dedicated forums for each version of the game and no shortage of help - and some of these fellas really know their stuff! Ignore the mischievous little bilge-rats - they are harmless if excitable, pay them no mind. :smug:

My advice would be to play around a bit in the stock game, and then try out one of the supermods (GWX would be the most popular option, I think.) It will give you an appreciation of how much the game has been improved by the hard work of the modders.
SH3 was my first modern subsim (not counting Silent Service waaaaay back in the day when I was too young to really fully grasp everything that was going on.) You picked a great one to cut your teeth on.
