I mean, just when this game is finally good, yet another crappy issue has to ruin it.
I didn't mind GWX and having to save only when surfaced, but for some stupid reason, SH5 will just crash to desktop out of nowhere.
No warning, no error, just .. BAMN!!!
so pathetic :(

MODs installed? System specs? Maybe a corrupted save game file? Most CTD I've had where with MODs or System problems not related to the game. Sometimes AntiVirus Software can cause CTD.

Did you get this exact Baltic mission when you started the campaign ?

ummm I'm not sure.. I don't think so..
In anycase, I disabled my Anti-virus and so far so good (knocking on wood)
but.. How do I know for sure I'm playing Open horizons ?? What are some other ways to tell ??
It says it when I first start the game
But just to make sure I'm not wasting my time.. I'm on operation drumbeat now.

What happens is , if you do the tutorial without OH2 installed the game makes a big career file in the saved games that the game uses for your career . This big game file would be the vanilla game file and then when you load all your mods you are trying to play OH2 with vanilla game files . This would definately cause CTDs . Go to the OH2 thread and check out the how to start a career with OH2 . Cheers .

ok great.. Still doesn't help.. I'm about 20 hours REAL time into this career.
Am I playing OHII or not?
What are some tell tale signs ??

Anyone know what this is about ?
From Dbgview log when starting SH5.
'' FTH: (3400): *** Fault tolerant heap shim applied to current process. This is usually due to previous crashes. *** ''
I can continue the campaign from the previous save without getting the CTD at the same spot .

What causes a random CTD?
Well... it's random. :rotfl2:
But I hear your pain. Software coding ends with something like "In case of any error, close".
Maybe eventually games could be more like operational systems.
I mean, if a part of the code return a result that is "out of bonds",
the game could pause, present us with alternatives, like "this part of
your game just crashed, would you like to restart it, or ignore the error,
or at least save your game and restart the game for you".
OS are more intelligent, being able to recover from an error and resume
operation like nothing happened. Maybe in the future games can be somewhat similar.
Or maybe I'm a dreamer... but am I the only one?

OHII can show in your game in a few ways. This is due to the things included.
So if you can see new ships this shows that OHII is installed (also a banner in the main menu)
If you can see Buoys in harbours and your obectives match those in post two of the OHII thread - then the campaign part has loaded.
Do you see buoys in the harbours:06:

buoys ??
Yep :)
Sure do, I like to actually follow the rules of the water with them too :)
I'm now south of Africa, so I think I'm playing OHII, also see the banner.
Don't know anything about new ships, because I never played the stock game more than 20 min. (It was terrible)
Now I'm curious.
There seems to be more crashes going into port than coming out. Why's that? Seems to me that the computer has to load more information going through the port and outward than coming from the open sea.
It would be great to have a 'Start at Sea/Finish at Sea' button for those experiencing 'return to port' ctd's.
Trevally.

for those experiencing 'return to port' ctd's.
If you have a CTD like this - load a save game further back if you can and wait a few days before returning to port.:-? :know:
That's what I normally do Trev. I can normally avoid them by lowering the TC. But I see many posts where people have the problem. Just wondering why ctd's occur on the way in and not so much on the way out.:hmmm:

I think it's because when you are in, you get the fresh data while you are loading game.. and when you are out, you already have data and then the game starts to load the new data near the ports or big convoys.. and if you are running under high TC - game crashes..
Thanks Volodya.
What if you deleted the saved games (except the last saved game) just before you got close to land? would there be less data for the game to load?
Sorry if these questions seem crazy, but my knowledge of computer games is very limited...except for what I have picked up here at Subsim.

I don't think so..
As Limkol said... "more crashes going into port than out". I've found that if you use TC of 512 or above for any length of time that SH5 will crash as you near your home port. This could be caused by stress on you CPU and RAM. Mine is an 2.8GH i5 with 3.75GBs of useable RAM, so now I've learned to expect it everyother save or so. Especially if I've accumulated a lot of tonnage. Computers with better CPUs and more RAM probably won't have this happen to them unless they have a problem with their mod installations.
Now I save right after I've had a good run on shipping. Also save again about 3 grid squares from port when you return. That way you don't have to go back and hopefully succeed getting that tonnage you had before SH5 crashed. That just happened to me once again after I finished Breaking the Fortress and was just about to pull into Wilhelmshaven. I had the feeling it was going to happen but I ignored it. :wah: But I was lucky tho, I'd saved after sinking 2 Capitol ships in Scapa Flow, so I only had go back to the last save and sink the same ships I did after the Capitol ships, and head for Wilhelmshaven. I didn't get a merchant I had before and had to change the times for the sinkings in my log book. But that was ok, I didn't have to start from scratch again for that mission.
...with 3.75GBs of useable RAM...
That's probably why you get CTDs with OHII...imo :yep:

so what? I have only 2Gb.. and almost no crashes.. because I know how to play this game without CTD's..
:hmm2: Are we talking RAM of memory sticks?
I guess not :)
If it's about GPU memory, i have only 1.5 Gb.
If it's about RAM, i have 16 Gb.
(and never crashed around Kiel BTW)

Congrats..
I have only 2..
Well that's not because of SH5, but i'm glad to have this much RAM in fact.
It allows X128 around Kiel without stuttering :O:

I seems to get CTD's so often all of a sudden now, I have no idea what caused this to start, but now when ever I got past 512 time compression, I get CTD after about 30 seconds, and only 25% of usable ram is being used, about 21% of CPU is being used and less than 21% and my GPU is hardly working up a sweat.
It is so frequent, the game is unplayable, I have given up trying for now, I have spent days and days on this, and still no good results.

I would just not go above 256... I mean, some of the trips take a bit of time, but really, I slow down every 2-4 hours anyway. I never just "PLOW THROUGH" without checking.

You need to get your mods in the correct order:yep:
Have a look at sobers list and Fifi - both show their mods in the correct order:up:
:agree:
+ i have set game to not pass X512 :yep:

It's the max useable RAM I can use with XP Home 32bit. And the reason I save before I head in to port. ;) Exiting out of SH5 this way seems to be the fix until I can upgrade my CPU and go to Windows 7.
