I dunno, I live not that far from Felixstowe and I've seen the Truck drivers. I think he probably would have been promoted. :haha:

Its actually a really great game... I didn't think I would like it I got it mainly for the pretty gfx and to play around but I found myself enjoying it and now I've got a nice volvo and five drivers working under me. The radio function is a really big + for me.

Agreed, this is a nice game. I've done a run from Felixstowe to Birmingham (via Harwich - don't ask) and Birmingham to Swansea. So far had one speeding ticket, one red light and one prang into the back of a truck. Very nearly had a head on with an overtaking van (not white though...that's something that should be addressed in the next patch) but managed to swerve into the verge and dodge it.
The graphics are delightful, particularly the transition from day to night, and the rain is excellent, while Train Sim 2013 does the raindrops on the screen better, ETS2 does the clouds and atmosphere much better, it actually feels like a proper storm.
The trucks themselves handle fairly docile, but I've never driven one so I can't say for certain that's how they feel. Sluggish to accelerate under load so can't fault that there. The engine noise in the cab is very quiet though, but again that could be a realistic thing on modern trucks. Last time I was on a truck was a very brief stint back in 2003 when I hitched a lift across town on a Co-Op truck (I was working at the local Co-Op at that point, the driver must have recognised my uniform and kindly offered me a lift) and I don't remember the engine noise being that quiet.
I can see myself enjoying this demo more tomorrow. :yep: Want to get some practice on the UK roads where I (mostly) know the rules before I unleash myself on the poor Europeans. :haha:

First add-on announced, Eastern European Expansion (http://blog.scssoft.com/2013/01/ets2-eastern-european-expansion.html).

Also a new patch is out, v1.3.

Have to get back to trucking again. :03:

There is a physics mod to address truck handling, but I think the latest patch may have addressed it too.

Yeah, I'd have lost my licence.

Would one be able to configure this for a joypad, and would that suffice? :06:

Yep, it's perfectly compatible with joypads and they work rather well.

Glad you're liking it. Someone is working on an MP mod, but it means no ai vehicles.

I'm working for a virtual trucking company, I do one job per day-ish, before watching a movie or show, as such I've neglected my own non-vtc profile.

Couldn't resist the loan and getting my own truck. Tons of work going to and from Rotterdam; turned out paying the instalments wasn't a big deal.

Better make sure you pay them all, or the Dutch mafia will find you:

Think I'll pay off this loan first, then get a new one. A big one. Expand the garage and buy another truck, pass this on to a driver.

Maybe. :hmmm:

Bought a DAF as my first truck after doing some jobs and taking a small loan.

After some time I bought a Renault Premium, which I traded in for a Scania later on, couldn't customize the Premium back then. The DAF went to my first employee that I hired.

With time my truck fleet has expanded, 10 trucks at the moment, all brands except for Majestic. Hopefully Mercedes will be added in the future.

Jumping between trucks when I feel like driving something else.
Back in my DAF again, now customized with a very dark brown (close to black) and "gold" livery, looks awesome.

In my VTC profile I drive a Scania 360, nearly level 10 to upgrade. :woot:

My other profile I drive a Valiant (Volvo) base model, and my other driver drives the base MAN, so far.

I watched three normal-speed videos at youtube, and get the very strong impression that reasonable driving physics is not the shining side of this game? Concept, idea, looks all are nice and well, but shouldn't reasonable driving physics (and less turning Autobahnen) part of the package?

I like good driving simulations and maybe wopuld have tried this one, the idea and concept indeed look nice. But the physics to be seen in the movies keep we away. So when it comes to big cars, I stay with OMSI.

Lord_magerius

The physics can be a bit borked at times and to be honest I think most people buy it for the eye candy.

I first saw this thread and my first thought was "Wow....something more boring than Microsoft Train Simulator"

Next, I read the thread and a driving simulation might not be that bad...just the fact that you are a trucker.... :-?

Lastly, I see that the driving physics are sub-par? Wow...That just killed any spark of interest I had in this game... :dead:

Herr-Berbunch

Hey, guess what? THERE IS A PHYSICS MOD.

I'd suggest if you have the slightest potential interest in the game you try the demo (with mods) before ignoring it forever.

It had load times that make all Silent Hunterers extremely envious.

Watching real speed runs would be quite the most boring thing on YouTube.

OSMI looks good, but is quite restricted in what and where it delivers, but again has some good mods, I believe.

Not wanting to distract from the threads original title, just briefly:

Try OMSI. One of the best simulations of a "moving platform" (air-land-sea) that I know. Feels incredibly real, the sounds I cannot differ form reality (I know those busses, I lived in Berlin when those things rolled there), the feeling to actually drive something that big is very convincing. Braking, accelerating, gear changes - all like I experienced it in reality 25 years ago. Interface a bitr rough around the edges, but one gets used to it. Many modded maps available also. New version with flex busses coming this year. Many videos on youtube, quality of maps shown there varies.

I also tried, longer time ago, Bus and Cable Car Simulator San Francisco.

LINK (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=185159)

Big shame. All that nice modelling of a very big city, and then ruining it with that crappy gameplay and bad driving model. Some developers, so I sometimes think, do their design work while being on drugs.

OSMI looks good, but is quite restricted in what and where it delivers, but again has some good mods, I believe.

Originally it had just one base track in Spandau 1989, but it got tremendously pushed in modded tracks available. I have collected some, but at one time stopped to follow it, since more and more tracks came out that needed more and more additional mods for traffic signs, graphics and other stuff. Maybe I have grown to old for this modding kind of business, I don't know. But from what I see, the sim really shines in number of very well done available tracks now.

A favourite added track of mine is Kulmnock, its is absollutely lovely ,and very well done. Duesburg also is nice. I think today there are even better ones.

A new version of OMSI will come this year. It features flex busses, and allows to switch between Spandau in various, at least two, time stages: before and after the wall came down. Some changes in those early years are very big, with whole railroad stations deleted and huge buildings added elsewhere (Spandau Arkaden as an example).

But first and foremost, it is about the experience to drive and manage a bus, and that is where OMSI delivers, with many bus models by default and in modded supplements, and it delivers with flying colours. The sound to me still ranks in the benchmark category of all simulation stuff, no matter the genre. I still could swear that I am listening to sounds from reality around me. Driving alone deep in the night in a silent outskirt of Berlin, with snow and heavy weather, makes you react emotionally to the sim. Not many simulations achieve such that with me.

Hey, no surprise there. Look what Ubisoft did to Silent Hunter.

Some Devs just want to watch the world burn right?

Collect a trailer with a couple of tractors they said! It was close, but I wiggled round and got out with no incident. Overnight (and day) run from Milan to Wien with a kip near Salzburg.

Just dropped the trailer in Wien, Austria - limited for jobs from here, all relatively low value.

Is there actually any advantage in having a 3 axle truck in the game or is that just looks?

Arclight

Bit more stable it seems. Haven't rolled a 6-wheeler yet, or jack-knifed. Braking seems better too.

Haven't rolled a 4x2 either for that matter, but got darn close once. :hmmm:

Not a livery mod that's for sure. Get rid of Posped, et al, swap for some real companies - same for filling stations, get Shell in there. :yeah:

Hmmm, not played this for a while . . . :hmmm:

I don't run mods in general. Saves me a ton of headaches and the pleasure of missing out on a lot of truly mediocre content.

Though the cosmetic stuff I don't mind. Might get the real companies in there. Then again, why bother? Never pay attention to that anyway... The hell do I care what the companies are called? :hmmm:

After seeing the screenshots in the Other Game's Screenies thread I demo'ed then subsequently bought it.
Using the Total Realism Project modpack at the moment, lot's of cool features in it,there's one that on game startup ,goes online to check up to date European fuel prices and put's them ingame, very nice touch but expensive :wah:

That site (without joining, at least) doesn't tell you much about it so this is from the SCS blog -

Today we would like to present you with a microscopic glimpse into what we hinted earlier - our long standing devotion to Euro Truck Simulator 2 evolution.

World of Trucks's ultimate goal is creating an environment where you - our community - can meet, interact and compete with each other in the expansive trucking world.

Shortly after the next patch we intend to release yet another game update, which is currently in deep testing. This update will enable some new features in the game, slightly extending its functionality.

This is only a very early stage of a whole new beginning. We'd go as far as calling it - an early alpha of WoTr. Please bear with us, keep your expectations modest, but positively stretched, for a very long journey into the World of Trucks.

Keep on Truckin'

I have been some what interested in this game for a while and it just so happens that it is on sale over a Gamers Gate so I went ahead and bought the base game.

You can also get the Eastern Europe expansion and Gold Edition(base game and expansion all in one) as well.Sale ends in 11 hours so if you are thinking about this game or want the exapnsion now is the time to buy.

Base game is $8.50 Eastern Europe is $9.50 Gold Edition is $17.50.

The Volvo's have lower interior sound level for the engine compared to the other trucks, so I tried fiddling about a bit with the levels.

Edited the interior.sii for both Volvo's, added 0.3 to each rpm level e0-7, e10-17.

Tried it before, but it didn't work. I write protected the the archive after I archived it. And suddenly it worked.

Just to verify that it worked I added 1.0 to the levels, yep it works. Sounded strange though. :haha:

Used the "scs extractor" to extract def.scs. http://www.eurotrucksimulator2.com/mod_tools.php

Copy the file before extracting it and place it in a folder. Copy the extractor to the same folder, and grab the file and drop it on the extractor.

the file is located in: Euro Truck Simulator 2\Ny mapp\def\vehicle\truck\volvo.fh16_2012\sound

that's for the Volvo included in the latest update, there's a fh16 folder as well.

I used Notepad++ to edit the volume levels.

Can those of you who do use mods for ET2 list some of the mods(and links) that you use please?

Looking for mods like the one that adds real logos.Things like that.

I've not played it for a while but I got my mods from here - http://ets2.lt/

Edit: I'll find which mods when I get home later.

I only found a few truck mods that I really like most are too tacky for me I like my trucks to look like what they are working vehicles.

So far I found a pretty nice Kenworth K100 which is a cab over engine so it fits nicely on European roads. There are some mods for engine in front of cab trucks as well but I think they will be hard to drive due to long nose.

I am a little leery of some of the mod sites for this game looks suspect when a mod photo has someones name blurred out in photos if you ask me kind of screams suspect.I go to the main SCS site.

I really like the Volvo trucks I have one of the top line FH16 with the super clean and quite interior full sleeper and the 600hp engine. That is my usual truck sometimes get I a little bored with its posh interior. And I will drive one of my MAN XL or any truck really I have at least one of every makers base model for my drivers.

I am 1.6 but seems like the mods I have tired worked fine of course I have only tried two that added new trucks the Kenworth and a 2008 Scania.

I am betting that the game fixes would not be of much use to me.My understanding is that v1.5 and 1.6 fixed a good deal things.

Might check out the better headlights for AI the trucks in 1.6 do not use brights that I have seen.

The thing about some of the sites is that they use bull crap download services for some links very annoying having to find the link to the actual file and not some other crap.

I found a fairly new light improvement mod gonna try it and see how it looks.

Stealhead
10-27-13, 03:21 PM
Well the lights mod works very well it seems to make the low beam lights a bit more bright but still have a proper distance.

The bigger detail is that now when other vehicles flash their brights at you especially from the behind or the sides you'll see the cab get brighter briefly(from the reflection in the mirrors if the vehicle is behind you). Cars will now flick their brights when they go to pass on a two lane road.

This mod was designed for version 1.6 so not sure if it will work as well on an older version.

I considered to reinstall Subways or Train Sim to have an occasional relaxing ride in the late evening hours, but then decided to finally try this game instead. Surprisingly, it delivers me the same experience that in would indeed expect from a train sim, just that i have more influence, and more manual things to do. So far I enjoy it in a strange way, although the driving model imo could have been done way much better even for this title that does not qualify as simulation, but is a game. I ended up with ignoring all the - almost unnoticable - FFB ingame settings, and replacing them with auto-centering from Windowds default setup for G27, of all bad options this still work the best in this game. I seem to benefit from having not jumped aboard before version 1.16 added x64 support and superior memory management. Many issues I read there have been in the past, seem to have been solved in the past two years. Plus there is a wider playground (the "East"), and Scandinavia is announced, together with new light and weather system.

The physics and driving simulation part does not match OMSI and of course not Assetto Corsa, still: a nice game to relax with in a calm hour you may find at the end of the day. I can see myself returning to this every once in while, for longer time to come. I do not always want stress when playing a computer sim.

This game really caught me on the wrong foot, I am hopelessly addicted to exploring this huge, huge world. Every tour I see something new, new landscape, new road situations.

Anyhow, a new DLC is about to get released, Scandinavia, and they released new picture material today. They say it will look and being simulated even more detailed than the older parts of their ETS universe.

Yeah, TSM Map mod is one to look for.

I really like it - or some areas in it anyway. Driving through the mountains of Tunisia for the first time was pretty breathtaking! I thought that in some of the recent additions to it have been subpar though, and in a couple of places they just went overboard with all the toys (Casablanca, last time I checked it out, was just a crazy collection of every possible object, with a steep spiral climb through the middle of town. wha?? )

Excellent modding community out there though, and it's great to see the support it's been given by developers.

Woot the Scandinavia DLC has been released! And now my install of ETS 2 is getting the dreaded dx9 error, where the screen goes black, but the audio is still there, I've never gotten this error before the 1.17 patch. Well, my truck has lost almost all power (can hardly accelerate with a 12t load), has lost cruise control and engine braking (tried to reassign those to different keys on my controller and even the keyboard but to no avail, the functions are just dead.). Steering feels completely differently too. So far a 1.something GB total disaster.:-?
Is there a way to go one version back on Steam?

Ok, I did a bit of research into why my install of ETS2 was getting the dx9 present error and so far the only solution was this (it's in English and German) http://steamcommumty.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=379526721 Will it work, I have no idea but it might be worth a shot.

So I did the thing to attempt to fix the dx9 error which worked for a while but it's back to crashing/freezing again after one of the latest updates 1.19 I think it was. So at this point I really don't know what to do about this problem and I might have to give up ETS2 for good, unless somehow the developers manage to fix it.

The France expansion for ETS2 is being released this coming Monday, Decembre 5th. And it looks beautiful, the landscape has been
really polsihed up. Some community videos here, very nice looking.

http://blog.scssoft.com/2016/12/first-vive-la-france-community-videos.html

The already existing parts of France have been completely redone and brought to the expansion's standard as well.

I still find the occasional ride very relaxing and recreational. Nobody can really explain it, but this title still runs strong and extremely
successful, and still has a very active modding community.

Sorry for digging up this old thread.

Is there somewhere where I can learn how to make mods and how to alter the game itself ?

Here is what I will change and add.

The weather-I will ad snow and slippery roads-Here I will ad possibility to change tyre.

Rest-Here I will give the player 3 options
1. driving and rest time determination(According EU)
2. The in game rest simulator
3. None.

I will ad pedestrian, motorcycle, bikes a.s.o.

Almanack I will add this to the game-So the player know when it's time to change his/her tyre.

Realistic timetable
Here the player can chose to play 1:1=if takes 6 hours to deliver the gods, then it will take 6 hours not 1 or 2 hours.

Here I will have
1:1, 2:1, 4:1, 8:1

Cant tell you how to code a mod, I dont know that stuff. But the game has a workshop (steam). It also has winter mods.

I would be careful, however, there are frequent updates and mods seem to get broken by them or tend to break the game. I stay away from mods in ETS2.

In my new G2 Reverb, its a blast, due to the 4x higher resolution per eye.

I still drive this a lot, for relaxation.

Your time scaling idea probably will collide with the fact that the map is a miniature model map, not real scaling. I think its 1:19 for ETS2, 1:15 for the UK, and 1:20 for ATS. In cities its different again.

How could I forget-Know from own experience added a mod and then game crash because it's doesn't work with the main game anymore-due to some upgrade of it.

They should add pedestrian, motorcycle and other soft traffic to the game.

And snow.

Thank you Skybird.

I have had a wintermod installed once-The problem was it was frosty winter ALL the time AND everywhere I drove.

I wanna create a mod...a real life weather mod and real life road situation(rain that freeze and make the road very very slippery) a.s.o.

If I would one day be hit by the lightning and suddenly know how to.

You as drive will run into several type of weather while drive from north to south or from east to west, depending on time of years and time.

Edit
The idea is when a player start a new career s/he will be asked which month, day and time they want their career to start. The weather forecast will be depending on month day and time.
So you have snow in Dec/Jan-Feb/Mar but not in the summer
End edit

Markus

Skybird
01-01-22, 09:36 AM
I think that fails due to the immense texture files that would be needed to be swapped on the fly. Look at FS20, that has kind of live weather - and how incredibly complex the online technology is that is behind it. Dynamic light of day changes is one thing, you work with the basic textures loaded at the beginning and just alter light levels and reflexions, but for a season mod, you would need to replace the textures themselves, live, on the fly.

The game is ten years old. If this could be done, i think somebody already would have done it.

Also, how often do you face a change between winter landscape and autumn or spring landscape live during a car ride of a few hours? Almost never. Not to mention that ETS2 has no spring, summer and autumn textures either. Its allways - well, summer. Changing from summer to winter and back?

mapuc
01-01-22, 09:50 AM
I've been thinking the same-Why hasn't anyone created a real life weather mod.

So I guess you're right.

It is sad though it would be a great thing if it was developed.

By the way the winter would be between Dec to beginning of March. and it will be here the chance for snow-slippery road will be highest.

Edit
I got the solution and it's simple-Create a new trucking game-called it European Trucking
It would be easier than alter ets2.
End edit

Finally! A huge, big, wide, open, white hole of nothingness is about to get closed in the ETS2 map. I assume with ferry traffic across the Adriatic (they better include it. Currently you are driving ridiculous routes from Italy to the central Balkan and Turkey, due to the missing traffic grid. With this DLC, still longer time away, my personal idea of a complete European traffic grid will be completed. Older content, regions from the beginning of the game , are getting massive graphical updates, too, last was Austria. Next upcoming DLC is Russia.

I have Euro Truck Sim 2 with all the DLC that they've released so far. Same with American Truck Sim. I keep them up to date when new DLC is released.

Right now, I'm waiting for Fanatec to get back up to speed so that I can buy a new wheel and pedals. My old Fanatec Porsche GT3 RSR v2 has finally outlived its usefulness. I have a Thrustmaster Ferrari wheel as an emergency backup, but the truck sims don't like it much.

I like to load the music player in game with the nine original albums that Frank Sinatra recorded with Nelson Riddle. Cruising across Europe in VR while listening to Frank is a great relaxation tool.

Thinking-What is best ? VR or a curved monitor ?

In Germany the gap is around between 100 and 250 Euros.

Anyway, for that price range, a driving player is better off with a VR set. However, a monitor has usability beyond VR.

After I had posted my comment I made a search where I used the same word
"curved monitor or VR)

and I found this

"VR is cool but you can't do it for long time unless you want to mess up your brain. Triple screen is the right compromise. Curved is the choice ..."

"100%. VR doesn't give you peripheral vision, and that is a huge disadvantage in wheel to wheel racing. VR is very cool, but triples for me all day"

Is this correct ? I haven't used a VR

I find VR to be superb for anything with a cockpit (race cars, airplanes, etc.) or in circumstances where you'd like to have the full impact of your surroundings, i.e., scenery and environment.

I play a lot of NASA sims, space sims, and Mars mission speculative sims, and prefer VR for these if available. I also like VR when I'm racing, or flying fixed wing aircraft. It works great for ETS2 and ATS as well, and really gives you a sense of being there, in the truck.

There is one thing for which I consider VR mandatory. That is flying helicopter simulations. I have full helicopter controls, cyclic, collective, anti-torque pedals, and because of the need for some semblance of depth perception when flying a helicopter, VR (and helicopter controls) are essential. I can set a chopper down light as a feather, with precise alignment every time on the deck of a small ship in my favorite helicopter sims. Trying to do it with a normal desktop (short) joystick and a monitor is haphazard and usually frustrating.

For other titles, I use a big, curved monitor. It lacks the totally immersive sensation of VR, and for titles that benefit from it, I much prefer VR. There is no greater immersive involvement for a game. You feel like you're there.

But for strategy games and things of that sort, the curved monitor works fine. As for VR being hard to take for long periods, I don't find that to be so. Neither have I ever felt sick from it.

Oh, and one more thing. I also consider VR essential when I ride rollercoasters in my rollercoaster sim. Most people whom I have lured into trying it claim that they can't take it. I've got some vicious rollercoasters. But I love it. It really gives you that, "Whoops! I think I left my stomach back there!" feeling.

Thank you for your answer.

The first I gonna buy is a Steering wheel and pedal.

Don't know if I'm gonna buy one with three pedals and add a shifter to the system or continue with automatic gearshift as I do know.

Lot of relgiopn in these things. Many praqise their fetishes. So do I. VR for me every time. Brain gets trained. Peripheral vision can be handled. But immersion and stereoscopic 3D eye vision no screen setup whatever can give you, can top.

I want the maximising of the illusion to be there to be in it, to sit in that cockpit. VR leaves screens in the dust, in these regards, even more so since we are beyond the low resolutions of the first generation headsets. And already that was a screen killer!

Just be wise what you play in VR...

I tried a mod in that that added certain attractions from fairs. I used VR for one certain hellish machine, kind of a rotating device in all three dimensions/axis while being swung around. And back then my brain was not yet full adapted to this new thing, VR.

I was ill, almost vomitted and felt like we all felt the very first time when we really got very very drunk from just trying out how it feels to be so drunk that you want to vomit for the rest of your life and you are sure your life is over. Thats how I felt afterwards, plus extreme dizziness. It stayed so for 6-8 hours. It would have been absolutely impossible for me to drive, to walk in a straight line (I fell over even from crawling), or to just be in town. I crawled on the carpet on all four, and when I laid still I felt like a ball getting rolled all over the field. It was a horrible experience. To top it: these effects set in not before several minutes after I put the mask down.

Extreme, yes, and unlikley to happen to everybody, but I was not fully adapted to it yet back then. Today I am, I can drive or fly for hours and feel nothing annoying anymore, only sweat if I forgot to switch on the ventilator. So, the brain adapts over time. I tried that hell machine again late last year. It was still not pleasant, but the extreme experiences did not repeat.

The coaster rides however are great to try in high res VR! Great stuff to scare the hell out of your girlfriend or watch her flic-flacking through the room and not being able to help it. :D Or to get rid of her fast and efficient, forever. LOL

Some days ago I noticed that there was two new States in ATS

Texas and Montana.

Oklahoma and Kansas coming soon.

In a couple of years the Entire USA will be covered.

West Balkan for ETS2 will be release don Octobre 19th. This will close the last remainign gap in the Europe map, probably also allowing then to finally ferry over the Adriatic. Ireland is missing in the West, but it is a "rim state", does not leave a bif empty void in the middle of the map whcih then will reach from t he southern tipos of Norway, Sweden and Finland to the Meditarranean and form Portugal and the UK to the Russian border, and up in the north near Murmanks into Russia. So... they made it! :yeah:

This is the road map with all stations and POI so far without the West balkan, imagine it to be there and you are fine.

I still occassionalyl driove this, it is so relaxing, and has sometimes suprising lots of atmosphere and beauty pleasing the eye.

Older regions get constantly updated to more recent visual standards. They started over one decade ago! Shall nobody say they are not committed. The title is still very popular and has a huge fanbase.

One decade, and still steaming ahead full power. Its amazing how big in size this has become. In VR its a blast.

When I want to escape from the world, I fire up ETS2 or ATS in VR, dial in Frank Sinatra on the truck's stereo, and take a long haul contract across Europe or America. I have all the DLC for both, so a long haul run can be really long.

Same here, long hauls from one edge of Europe to the opposite rim of it. I bought ATS in a sale some years ago and had a look at it, its looking fine but Europe already is so immense and vast and big that I find it impossible to extensively play both and enjoy the map and its changes, so I moved away from ATS. Dido, Rumer, Smooth London and XO-FM being my preferred music choices, sometimes Vangelis.

I don't play it often, but again and again, regularly.

This announcement came unexpectedly. Did not forsee they would go for that region again.

I'm glad that they are taking a second look at the Nordic countries updating and upgrading them to the games new standards just like they did with Germany and France. I hope they do the same to the UK, Austria, Belgium, and Poland.

While they do, dont forget that the Nordic DLC probably is around two years away or so. And before that comes Greece.
