View Full Version : How do I delete a post and/or get images to appear?

I made an experimental post of a patrol report that originally appeared on the Ubi SH4 forum. Although I edited and used the "insert image" icon to link to the online saved screen shots, nothing appears. I decided to delete the post until I figure out how to solve the "insert image" problem but the "edit/delete" option ONLY allows editing a post.
I need to know how to do both. Obviously, if I can get the image to show up, that obviates the need for deleting the post.

I can only describe my own experience. I use Photobucket for storage. After I copy my picture from there I just use Right-Click and Paste to put it in here.
You can't delete the starting post of a thread. Only the forum moderator can do that.

When I want to move a patrol report with SS's from Ubi, I just highlight the entire post, copy and come here and paste it. No need to use the insert image here, just do as Steve said, if you use PB, copy the image link and paste it here.
Mods have no problem deleting a thread if you ask them. Heck, Steve loves to delete things.

Hi Paul,
I had a look at the source html of your post and it seems you are posting the URL of the viewing page, rather than the URL of the direct image. In Imageshack, you will see two URLs under 'Links to share this image', one is called 'Link' and one is called 'Direct'. You need to use the 'Direct' URL for an embedded image.
For example, using the two URLs for your first image:
Using http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/836/194312020647z.jpg/ you will get: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/836/194312020647z.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/836/194312020647z.jpg/
as an embedded image. E.G. Nothing.
Using http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/9281/194312020647z.jpg you will get:
http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/9281/194312020647z.jpg
Hope that helps.
Just edit your post and use the 'Direct' URL and you should be fine.
EDIT: You should be able to delete a post when in Edit mode - Along the bottom right, you should have 'Save' 'Go Advanced' (always been to scared to press that one in case I find myself out of my depth) 'Delete' and 'Cancel'.

'Go Advanced' just changes the 'Edit' page to give you the full one with smilies. It looks just like the one you type the original post on.
As I said, only the forum moderator can delete the first post of a thread.

Yes, it was a self-depricating joke.

Serves me right for editing my posts. I knew I should have gone advanced, but I just wasn't confident enough.

Thanks! I fixed the SS links so that they now appear.
I think I'll post the rest of the career and then redirect the links so that they go to SubSim.
Sadly, Bernie makes a fatal blunder in Patrol 7 and shuffles off his mortal coil. Publishing my mistakes is both instructive and promotes a salubrious humility.

you cant upload images from your computer, they must be uploaded at another site then the link is used to put the image into your post so it has to be online somewhere first before you can use it.
doing it that way takes much less demand on subsim so the website doesnt cost a fortune to run
