I must say, not since the final release of GWX for SHIII have I felt this way.
Modders, my hats off to you guys, this game is finally a good game.. Still some small issues, but for the most part, I'm immersed and the little details are not bothering me.
Great job!!
I've posted so many nasty things about this game, I really never thought I would feel this way. I know we all did, but I checked back every 6 months or so and it was the same boring/bugged/arcade game.
I think the best part is the whole campaign change, something II, whatever it is, its GREAT!
Quick question.. I finished the first 3 missions and on my 4th now, the North Western Approach, when I first got to the area and like every other mission there would be a little yellow icon/ship icon, showing me where to patrol, the first one was by belfast, pretty far south from the main icon for the mission.
I sunk a couple tiny merchants (With my deck gun) and now the little yellow icon showing me where to patrol around is no longer around.
I just want to make sure nothing bad has happened, I saved and reloaded the game but the icon is still gone, just don't know where to patrol now.
THANKS GUYS! GREAT JOB!!
edit** also, how do you manually target with the deck gun?? when I get in it, I see no way of having a target recital

I would say "Your Welcome", but my mods are nothing compared to the artistic works of others. Seriously, OHII and IRAI should be hung up in art galleries! Somehow. :-?
Anyway, glad to hear that somebody's enjoying SH5!
EDIT IN RESPONSE TO EDIT: There's an icon in the top left corner when you're manning the gun. Click on it and you'll get a scope.
I have no yellow icon (with OHII full) it's a little red cross in a red circle.
Western approach mission draw me this cross far south of main mission line, close to Northern Irland.
After few kills (or is it after a save?) red cross just desapeared...
Have to send mission report to BDU to (sometimes) see the cross back somehere else :hmmm:
Anyway, i'm a simulation big fan (all kind), have played SHIII and IV more than a normal person should :D, and can tell everybody SH5 modded (by the awesome team over here) is one of the best if not THE best i've ever played!
To me, Dynamic Environment + OHII + New UIs + IRAI deserve a special medal :yeah: (and probably real navigation - have to try it yet)
Not to say plenty other mods are just stunning too, as Sober best ever fog!

I have that little yellow square telling me to patrol a certain area..
weird..
I have it installed via JSGME, called Open horizons II_Fullv2 then the
mission fix underneath it.
What are some other ways to make sure thats what I'm playing?

Nice post Fastfed:D
The yellow/orange icon or red cross depends on your map mod. They are all the same marker.
This icon should be looked at as a small bonus mission. The main mission is to patrol the large area.
With the main mission - you can go back to base and end patrol as many times as you like - it is always active and will reg kills every time you reach the partol area.
The small mission is only for one patrol and can be finished before your patrol is over. Sometimes it will just disappear and some time a new one will pop up. You can check in the captains log to see what it wants you to do.
more info here:-
Campaign Progress
Within each campiagn (i.e. coastal Waters) there are main objectives to achieve. These will be things like "Patrol the East UK coastal shipping area". As you achieve kills, tonnage is recorded on the progress bar and it will fill so you can keep track of your progress. When the bar is full, you have achieved the objective and will be awarded crosses to fill your campaign bar.
Most of these objectives a time/date related and if you fail to fill the progress bar within that time - you will fail the objective.
Failing the objective will not stop your campaign. You may have some blocked objectives or even blocked campaigns as a result, but your career will continue.
If you finish an objective within the time frame given, a new one will be triggered. If you fail within the time a new one will be triggered. Sometimes there is no trigger and then you may not get a new one untill a later date. When this happens, you should go out and patrol anywhere you like, hunting any ship you like. this is a good time to test your skills by trying some harbour raids etc.
When the time comes for a new objective, you will be sent a radio message informing you that new objectives are ready. You do not need to return to port and select it. You can just go and start the new objective from where you are. You do not need to select an objective from the main briefing map (except Triumph of the Wolfpack and the Training Drills for WA and TP).
When you do select an objective from the main briefing map, you will also be given a secondary mission. This will be thing like "Drop of supplies at area X" see here for an example (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=188171) When you achieve these secondary missions, you will be rewarded with extra renown points that you can use to upgrade your u-boat. If you do not do these secondary missions - there is no penalty.
See here for campaign and mission objectives and how they work Clicky Click (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1861388&postcount=927)
Ahhh...Trevally! THIS SHOULD BE STICKY!
I always aimed for secondary objectives first! lol
Now i understand how it works

These secondary missions will not affect your campaign progress, but they will give you bonus renown to spend on that new shinny gun you are after.
They will however alway be within your patrol area (unless they are a drop off mission) so that any kills for the secondary mission will also count towards the campaign:up:
With TheBlackPit, I have used these secondary missions pt give pre scripted wolfpack attacking in the campaign - see here for example:-
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=196197
Also - MonsunGruppe uses these secondary mission to refuel over the large distances that you have to travel

Thanks..
A few questions if you guys don't mind..
1.How do a do an emergency surface? Blow ballast and all that?
2.How do I run silent? When I tell the XO to go silent, he tells me no.
and finally
3.This just happened, major damage in the motor room, flooding was heavy and the mechanic was in main room, I clicked him and told him to help with flooding and he kept saying "sorry I cannot do that right now captain"
WTF, lol
How do I make sure these guys are fixing the stuff?
One reason why I adore SHIII Damage control was not only fun, it was a task, you had to manage the team and it was amazing IMO.

You've met the requirements for that patrol... the Yellow Icon will disappear. Go and find more ships to dispatch wherever you want. ;) When you run out of torpedos head back to your port, Dock, reload, and start the next mission. If make a mistake and you Refit, you will not get to the next mission.
One good thing to do is Save after you have met the mission requirement and sunk all the ships you can. Then head to port. If something happens like a CDT or you do choose to Refit by mistake you can go back to the last Save and start from there. ;)
F1 will show the key commands. Shift/F1 will show extra commands. ;)
