View Full Version : Rats leaving a sinking ship

Greetings fellow sea dogs.
Well, it seems that Ubisoft has finally become sick of us Silent Hunters loitering in their waters and they have raised the ugly side of communism by declaring imminent domain on any and all content posted to their forums in exchange for posting priviledges. It sticks in my craw and I wave goodbye to the good folks at Ubisoft and drop anchor here looking for new and old friends.
Is it just me or has Ubisoft sunk to a new low in their battle against software pirates by becoming pirates themselves?:arrgh!:
Well, you know what they say...

I seem to have found the SimSim forum for SH4.
I'll just toss in that I completed 2nd Patrol of career that began in late May 1942. In the first Patrol, sank a Hiryu CV.
In this Patrol, had to hit a couple of PZs in the Aleutians. After that, had time to get to Guadalcanal in time for Savo Island on 9 August. In transit sank a 5,000 ton merchant. At Savo, sank a Takao CA.
Slowly worked my way north and intercepted IJN TF on 22 August. Detected around 1330 base time during a sonar check. Got into position - was able to get of a TF report. Had to penetrate the outer screen which proved easy because of the sea state. Went to P-depth and saw an approaching Shokaku CV around 4,500 yards away - speed 16. I was about 1,200 yards off the track, well positioned for a 10 torpedo salvo. I wanted to make sure that I sank this baby.
Kept popped scope up to refine solution then downing it again. On last look, tweaked the solution and let fly. Dived the boat - was crossing 120' when the first torpedo hit. Out of the 10, there were 4 misses, 4 hits, and 2 duds. Somewhat sloppy but acceptable.
Made it back to Midway with 3 objectives and 46,000 tons.
Before embarking on Patrol 3, I decided to start a German career. I wonder if the reinstall will have corrected the German TDC bug...

I see you're once again trying to pass off the jobs I give you on others, the sign of a good upcoming officer. However, I have one problem. I told you to wire brush and paint my sub, fairly nice job, but I don't like the flames painted on the side, redo ASAP. Don't forget storing my special cargo in my cabin under my bunk.

First you don't like the pink primer, now you don't like the flames. The bright orange and yellow flames against the flat black is just too cool. I worked too hard on it. I'm not changing it. :|\\

Welcome aboard to the new arrivals! :sunny:
New forum software with severely restrictive size limits on posted screen shots. (killed the screen shot competition)
Plastered their crap ads in the borders, effectively squeezing the posting space into microtype territory.
And last but not least... the straw that broke the camels back...
A new "check these radio buttons" screen when logging in labeled with some absurd demands claiming immenent domain on content and collection of data about the members in exchange for posting priveleges. Not mandatory yet, but likely will be soon.
Known in some circles as Cranial Rectal Syndrome.
So, now not only does Ubi steal your money in exchange for a lease on their garbage software that never gets fixed, they want to steal the hard work of the modders who fix their junk and help their games sell.
Kind of like Facebook.

When the game, and thus the forum was new, it was just about like this one. A lot of good people learning from each other and helping the new people. There was a lot of friendly joking with each other and simply an enjoyable place. Then UBI changed the format and it made some things such as posting a screen shot a little difficult, but still doable. Then they changed it again to how Wolferz described. One thing he left out was a rediculous sensoring software that blanks out parts of words (ex: button became ****on). And yes, it is that restrictive. Then the latest new requirement that Wolferz described.

Only within certain limits. If you choose to try to get away with real proscribed words by changing letters you'll find that it's not so easy.
Ubitoss was becoming more and more worthless.

For me it all went sour when they sent in those clueless Community managers that had never set foot on a boat, much less the sim and they acted like they knew what was going on. Every one gets a special job. Now get to the aft torpedo room to set up your bunk. We designated it as the "lady's cabin" so you're sharing with SheWolf. Since she has seniority on the boat, you get to keep it clean, and keep the aft head clean. Looks like Armistead came up with a job for you also. And if you keep complaining about getting jobs, I'll make you clean the engine room.

Wrong...
The front is the prow. The back is the poop deck. And those little round windows are portals.
Maybe you should go to sailor school. "Prow" can be used in place of "bow", but is much less common than it was in sailing ship days.
The Poop Deck is the officers' deck, above the captain's cabin on a sailing ship. The aft end of the ship is indeed the stern.
A portal is a doorway, usually a big one, commonly the entrance to a church. There are no portals on a ship, except perhaps the entrance to the grand ballroom on an ocean liner. The "little round window" is a porthole.

The prow is the forward most part of a ship's bow that cuts through the water. The prow is the part of the bow above the waterline. The terms prow and bow are often used interchangeably to describe the most forward part of a ship and its surrounding parts. In old naval parlance, the prow was the battery of guns placed in the fore gun-deck.
Since Submarines have torpedoe tubes in this area, the correct term would/could be prow.:know:
Yesterday I couldn't spell sub mah ree ner. Today I are one.:arrgh!:

We've been through this before, even a brand of humor must contain some humor, unless you like laughing at yourself. If I, after several years of knowing you don't get it, I doubt Steve will either. My fear is you two are so much like, that when Steve gets to know you, he won't like you at all.
Regarding myself, it's not about being funny or smart, it's about being right, although I do find myself smart and funny. You don't realize the simplicity of my stupidity came about at Ubi, often having to lower myself so I could understand and connect to the many stupid people there. I consider it my gift to humanity. Like Paul stated in the bible "when in Rome, act like a Roman."
Even I know "A/a" ain't a word, it's a letter, you can't misspell a letter, so I await your apology. Worse, you misspelled "spelln", eveyone knows speling ends with a g, so whoses

However, thanks for the advice, I didn't know I could type in words soundings into the address bar and get more Angelina Joila images.

I was encouraged (read coerced) to take the sub entry test at AFEES Amarillo. My buddy and I were predisposed toward a brownshoe career. He made dot drawings on his test sheet. I made a half-arsed speed-through-it attempt. He blew it big time. I was rewarded with 'You were just *that* close, sailor.' I always suspected bubbleheads were brainiac-nerds of the nth degree. My time here reinforces my suspicions. This is why I read more than I post here.

Nope, I wasn't a squid, but not for lack of trying. My initial ASVAB score qualified me for the Nuclear Technician MOS. But, they turned me down because I had asthma when I was a teen and their regs require no attacks five years prior to your eighteenth birthday. It had only been four for me. The Army has no such qualms.
Basic training in Uncle Sam's Boy Scouts requires the extra Sir!
Addressing an NCO required two Sergeants also. Like the brand spanking new FNG I met in a PX restroom who addressed me thusly...
"Sergeant is there a drinking fountain around here Sergeant?"
I replied: "Private! I'm a private just like you!" I've never seen a kid turn that many shades of red since.:rotfl2:
My battle buddy naturally asked why I didn't drop him. Yeah sure! If his drill had walked in and caught me making his troopy beat his face on a restroom floor! Riiiiight! I would have been down there with the kid. Then escorted back to my barracks for a chat with my senior Drill, who would make me mule kick till I puked.
MULE KICK PRIVATE!
Those aren't Mule kicks! Them's bunny hops! I SAID MULE KICK!

Oh dear, I was replying to you saying my comment that mature and older was a contradiction, which makes no sense. You can define mature as aged, but that would be more of a synonym, not a contradiction. I was simply stating older folks are often immature, not using it in the sense of age, which was obviously clear.

Wolferz, we agreed long ago, what happens in the Pacific stays in the Pacific. Do you really want all the cats out of the bag? Do you want all the dark closet gossip at Ubi spilled here at Subsim? How would you feel if I exposed your communist lust affair with Cel, the fact you were a Ubi plant to spy on members, incorrect counting in the SS competitions, told of the instance that Wern caught you doing,..well, I'll stop there. I also remember the time you got me thrown in the brig for two weeks, although I've forgiven you, the scar remains. I even kept a copy of that weekend thread that got three mods involved and almost got 14 of us banned for life. I'm sure you remember it, should I post it here for all to see? If bland humor mixed with obvious sarcasm needs to be moved to another forum, by all means move it to General Topics, not my thread, but if it goes on for pages, don't blame people posting, a mod should simply move it where he feels it belongs...

Ok, back on topic.....

We'll do so... grudgingly.
OK kids...Sea Dog pile in the Gen Top.
Last one out, don't forget to lock up.
My apologies to the management for putting this one in the wrong category. (Greenhorn here... for the most part)
Every topic I start that Armistead nee MWolfe gets involved with always suffers devolution and Armistead always :wah: if he can't have his way.
Could I get one of the fine moderators to move this thread to general topics and we'll continue snarking at one another there.
Oh, and rename the topic to Ubirats in the bilges. Thank you kindly.:salute:

Well, I want to keep on topic {Ubi forums stink} but don't blame this on me. I just go along with the crowd, a general failing of mine. If it was up to me, I would've banned you after your first post. I'll certainly express my inner feelings regarding you once the topic is moved.
You're the one that got off topic { a topic that didn't belong here} talking about Prows, Poop Decks, being a private, etc....Then fire generally started offending everyone and I came to Donna's defense like a knight from the past. I tried to get back on topic, then dancing girls and ugly naked men........If I offended anyone, I'm sorrr, sorr....well, get over it.
Anyways, I know Takeda has his sword raised above my head or has a cell ready for me with bread and water, so I'll say one "last" thing , we both know who really is at fault here

PS: Ubi forums stink...and where is my dang coffee....DONNAAAA {ducking}

PS... Ubi forums stink because I left all your dirty laundry right where you dropped it in the middle of the officer's mess.

Ok guys. I think the point has been taken concerning UBI. Let's move on to bigger and better things. Carry on the crazy banter in GT. The place is full of loons. We all fit in somewhere down there. Leave SH4 forums for SH4.
Thank you!
