View Full Version : Questions on changing weather when loading saved games

Well crap....was tracking a two ship convoy at 11 km starting to re position to their forward quarter for a shot. Still even (aka AOB of 90) with them...well my lady friend comes over...and needs attention.
Long story short, I save the game with great visibility, sea state, no wind. When she leaves...I fire it back up and the weather is now Medium Fog. I knew to expect that the weather would change....but what i didnt expect was for it to say that way after multiple re Loads (aka..expecting the weather to change after each reload). I've reloaded about ten times and its still the same Fog...etc.
I normally accept whatever the new weather is with loading the game, since I never save before I engage units......but I rationalized this time that I want at least decent visibility (no fog) to engage these ships.
I know this is a stock bug.....but is there a grace period of keeping the same weather you had when you saved last...or is it supposed to change after each re Load? Since I'm basically running the game for a minute...Saving..then reloading (usually ending the game to windows...and relaunching) and getting pretty much the same fog everytime. Couldn't find any thread about the little things about this topic.
It has been long since I last played the game in campaign mod, but as far as I can see from other forum member reports, medium fog is the standard weather when reloading a savegame. :-?
Maybe you can trick the game, into making it to think that it is summer. In order to do it, you should edit the northern emisphere section of ClimateZones.cfg and, for each climate zone, replace regular settings with the following:
SeasonName=summer
StartDate=0101
EndDate=1231
Enable your cheat at the end of your mod list before loading your savegame, and make sure to disable it once you finished dealing with your convoy.

Well that may be (Med Fog on load up) but the Fog will normally disappear or change settings within 5 mins of load out.
If you look straight up as soon as the game loads from the bridge you can see what looks like an expanding circle of clear air or clouds/fog......this is the "new weather" loading. The circle expands out to the horizon/surface and the new weather is set. The issue is....it says at med fog....no expanding circle..etc. And I'm not looking to MOD the game more...or trick it.
That is a very annoying issue with SH5 for all of us...

I have the same problem. The fog follows me around the world, no matter where I go, for a very long time.

Haha.......SH5: You think you are going to Save your Game at any point mid patrol????? PUNISH HIMMMMM!
Weather in SH5 has always baffled me. Obviously it would be great to have truly dynamic weather. But the solid status quo for two days (or longer unModded) is annoying and I think Unrealistic.
Weather is a huge part of being on the Ocean. So much so that Sea State and current conditions were radioed daily via the Enigma (helped code breakers start to crack the nut). Captain's daily logs were marked daily with weather conditions and if they changed (Sea State, Baro pressure, Visibility...etc). I understand Fog that doesn't lift for for awhile (read Scotland/north sea), but its annoying to know that it will change approx two days later......vise sailing to clearer waters.
The weather is beautiful in most cases ...but still too static and not a big enough role the game (still big...just not a me verses the ocean then my enemy big). It would be cool to be able to forecast crappy weather by seeing a gradual drop in Baro Pressure. Or see the weather getting worse/better. Actual Fog banks/spotty fog compared to what we have know. Marine layers that are low...but not fog (aka good vis out but clouds very low). Maybe figuring out what the surface water temp is as well?
Anyway...its a pipe dream....we have a Ship Sim...not a weather sim.
Could be me, but I've found that if you Save while submerged you'll have medium to heavy fog that doesn't want to go away. But if you Save while surfaced you will have a good chance of no fog or light fog. And another factor too is the Environment mod you use.

I dont know about that. I only save on the surface....and it gives me Med fog when I return at times. Mods are listed below. I've tried saving and reloading 15 times once....fog stayed the same....but the wind would shift gradually with in the first hour or so. Then I've had reloads that keep the exact same wind and weather combo for days. So I dont know.
SH5's weather is called a 'crap shoot'. ;) :D LOL

I have found that if I click load saved game with a mouse click- I get fog.
If I use the return key I get nice weather

Tried that... went from medium fog to heavy fog :down:
I just always try to make the best use of this annoying side affect by saving and loading the game before I make a midnight run at decks awash through the Strait of Dover... I figure there will be plenty of times when by loading a save game I lose track of a convoy I was pursuing, so I might as well get some benefits from this mostly annoying glitch :03:

Sorry - forgot to say that you also need to be facing north for this to work:03:

Please, try being more specific... geographic or magnetic North? :hmmm:

from the Report on the Interrogation of U-770 Survivors (http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-70INT.htm)
U-boats are not given any weather reports, as they do not need them, but are frequently requested to give weather reports, for which purpose they surface. The reports are wirelessed direct to the B.d.U. (Vice-Admiral U-boats), who passes them on to the German Air Force.
