For top donors, inauguration means access, influence and angling for next big job

The voters have spoken, but even after a $2 billion presidential campaign, the quest for dollars in Washington continues. This weekend, the high rollers are paying for inauguration parties that are almost always busts, a ceremony that’s better seen on TV and access that’s not exactly priceless but pretty darn expensive. For the thousands of high-end donors who pay for the whole thing, the inauguration is about exclusive access to the president and vice president, as well as what insiders call “placement.” (Jobs, they mean.) Goodness knows it’s not the big public balls that lure the visitors; by universal accord, those http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/02/AR2009010200653.html — people you don’t know and don’t like, bars you’d need a crowbar to reach, bad food and not enough of it.

Tomorrow, anyone with any sense is staying as far from DC as they can. Actually, that is pretty good advice any time.
I honestly do not understand why anyone would want to travel there, stand for 6 hours just to watch the swearing in on large TVs around the mall.
My only interest is finding out whether Justice Roberts can give a simply oath without stepping on his ... uh.. gown. Crikey he was an embarrassment last time.

Just in case the old archaic coot screws it up, and get nervous in public again.
Should Let Scalia do it, he can spit in the presidents face, and claim it was an old Sicilian respect ritual.
Yeah, we can tease Roberts, but he is one of the less extreme members on the court.

If Scalia did it, it would be the only inauguration in history to feature f-bombs and the n-word.

Just one N word?
My grandmother was an old Italian woman, and that word came out her mouth at least more than once.( Per hour)

All jokes aside, I feel we made the right choice in this election.

Wow! I was impressed while watching the inaugration on TV this morning.
What a great speech ... even sounded sincere to me, but while watching the Lord spoke to my heart and said,
"A war is on the way if we don't get out of the Persian Gulf"
I don't know if he meant soon or before this administration is replaced with the next one four years from now.
I do know the sound of the Lord and it can't be mistaken for any other voice.
I can almost remember the last time he spoke and said that,
"Hamas would hurt Israel so bad it would shock the world"
and the time before that that was about three years ago something about,
"a hurricane would broach Texas"
and sure enough one came up overnight a few months later and broached Texas and back to back with that prophecy God said,
"if Iran would launch a missile towards Tel Aviv, it would land in Jordan"
and the time before that was almost four years ago next week after the last inauguration.
"The Clitons would be the downfall of Obama"
A special day indeed, but of course I don't have anyway to whisper in Obama's ear or even to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, but something tells me our Navy needs to get out of harms way by leaving the Persian Gulf.
I have had these thoughts before, but this is the first time that the Lord has backed them up with prophecy.
What if Israel is up to doing the job of protecting their country from a percieved nuclear threat? The USN would become a prime target to deal with.
Just another day serving my country and my Lord
Oh how he humbles me ... just a nobody nothing
He truly is no respector of persons :yep:
WASHINGTON — Barack Hussein Obama renewed his oath of office at midday Monday, ceremonially marking the beginning of another four years in the White House and firmly embracing a progressive agenda centered on equality and opportunity.
