View Full Version : Manti Teo: I mean, WTH?

Notre Dame's Manti Te'o, the stories said, played this season under a terrible burden. A Mormon linebacker who led his Catholic school's football program back to glory, Te'o was whipsawed between personal tragedies along the way. In the span of six hours in September, as Sports Illustrated told it, Te'o learned first of the death of his grandmother, Annette Santiago, and then of the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua.

Did you enjoy the uplifiting story, the tale of a man who responded to adversity by becoming one of the top players of the game? If so, stop reading.

Personally I do not understand why this made every major news outlet. Even ESPN put up all stops to run this story. Who gives a rat's pa-toot what delusional story he fabricated? I certainly don't. This is National Inquirer garbage. If there was ever proof needed that America's priorities are screwed this would be it.

They ran this story because every single news outlet in America ran the original hoax story the first time. There was a massive outpouring of support for this guy and his ficticious grief. Every morning news program ran a segment on it. It was all over ESPN too. It is only natural to run stories telling us that the original story was all a hoax, and that a lot of people got played.

I did not see the original story. And honestly, what is it about this guy that he gets the entire news organization to produce a spot about it? Stories like his occur everyday. It is still fodder for The National Inquirer IMO.

Well Tak, I did not see the original story. And honestly, what about this guy does he gets the entire news organization to produce a spot about it? Stories like his occur everyday. It is still fodder for The National Inquirer.

It probably had something to do with him being the star linebacker for a Notre Dame team playing for the BCS National Championship. You know, hero linebacker leads team to victory while overcoming great personal hardship.

Makes for great movies I guess. However, this one has a twisted ending! :haha: He has successfully marked himself and career. The mark of instability.

Isn't he still saying it was love, but just an online affair and he got scammed...

Poor guy.......:har:

Worse, I caught an hour of the Jodi Arias trial and thought "what a nice girl". You'll have to forgive me, first I've heard of it in detail, nice girl, lures her ex boyfriend with some wild sex, takes pics of him in the shower, when he's not looking she stabs him about 27 times, shoots him and cuts his throat from ear to ear. Let it be a lesson guys....

No, she suckered him into a interview to get better ratings for her failing network. She does not care about Lance and his dirty little secret.

He is not hurting for money. I don't think Oprah compensates anyone for appearing on her show. If anything it is a free boost in a career path. She has made and destroyed new authors on her show. What this does is lead Armstrong on a new path for a new book on how it all happened. It is the start of an apology tour and book signing. :yep:

I didn't know. I figured that with his numerous cycling payouts, years of adervertising income and sucessful Livestrong brand he was living in a carboard box in an alley. Thanks for setting me straight.

He has done well with the Livestrong brand. I believe he owns a few bike shops. What he has done in the bike world, before the coming out party, is much like winning the gold medal at the Olympics. You come home to offers of endorsements and a picture on the box of Wheaties.

Armstrong worth $125 million.

He won't be worth $125 million after he settles the lawsuits... From the looks of it he won't be worth a buck twenty five by the time they're done with him.

I don't believe so in this case. No one was harmed or worse. He did not receive money or items of value from the ruse. He did physically play the game and did well. This has gotten the attention of the pro football head hunters. He has not broken any laws I'm aware of. The lies and deception will carry it's own penalty.

Takeda Shingen

If he does make it in the NFL this will probably be used as taunt material for every away game he plays. Of course, given what his salary would be, he likely won't care.

Reminds me of a sea story, this one ain't no lie.

We, meaning the USS Salmon SS-573, were in
San Francisco for a small up keep at Hunters point shipyard back in 1963.

I was too young and couldn't go on liberty till
I was qualified anyway, but the rest of the crew
hit the beach and went to their favoirte hangout
the Horse and Cow a well known submarine bar in
downtown San Francisco.

One of the guys starts up a conversation with a
stunning well dressed beauty of a girl, she buys him
drinks and everything and then they leave the bar together
with the rest of the crew laughing and hiting each other on
the arm with the awful truth of this was no girl.

The next morning at quarters everyone knew and the offending
party was there (an electrican mate as I do recall) and after
quarters someone told the COB and he comes over and says
to poor sucker (who surely by now knew he had been found out)

"It's okay to play to but sooner or later you have to pay"

You had to be there to see him spitting and everyone laughing.

at least this guy manti Teo didn't go all the way :yep:
