View Full Version : Can't hear hydrophone contacts

I've installed used TDW's patch and I cannot hear any ships when manually aiming the hydrophone. The sonar guy is able to hear them fine, but when I check the bearing, I hear no change in sound.

Maybe it's something to do with my sound mods.

Ahoy Wurmed,
Could be, as far as the sound mods. The only way to find out if that is true would be to disable them one by one and save during the campaign at a time when this was happening.
If TDW's patch's are installed correctly (they have the activated icons) concerning the hydrophone then that should not interfere with hearing the sounds.

As far as the Hydro sounds go, sometimes if you are far away from the ship, you may not hear the sound until you get closer.
If this is not the case, I would try pulling the "German U-Boat Hydrophone SFX" mod temporarily as that one fits right into that catagory, I have never tried the mod myself and I don't know what it does, but I would start there, and try any other sound mod that might effect the hydrophone.
I don't think sound mods that are for basic sub interior/exterior sounds are going to be a problem with the Hydrophone.
If it does turn out to be a mod, just rearrange the placement and then it may work with no problems.

I've tried all that, being at 30m+ and within visible range of the ship I'm tracking, but still no engine sound. I've removed all mods that deal with sound and it still refuses to work.

I'm now going through one by one to find the culprit.

I think I fixed it, but I'm not sure how. Maybe I just needed to be closer to the ship I was detecting?

Are you using the exe patcher to fix the hydrophone ?
Have you given the hydrophone operator some training via the special abilities ?
Is the hydrophone player out of morale ?
Maybe its a mod thing !

Yea, I did the patcher.exe fix.

I was testing this out with the Four Bearings mission, so I hadn't upgraded any of the crew.
