Hello everyone!
I just downloading Living breathing ocean and am running it with TMO and it seems my crew will not leave the watch stations when I submerge. Is there any way to correct this or will I have to forego my use of said mod.
On a different note...I am new posting here but I have been lurking since playing Silent Hunter 3 around a year ago. It was just the 3rd sub game I had ever played following Subcommand and Silent Service on the NES in my youth(1st grade).
A bit sad that I have missed out on such a great community all these years but I suppose better late than never no?

Try surfacing, saving the game and reloading it. It's a pretty common bug thats been around since SH3 if I remember correctly. And welcome to Subsim!

Yes. The bug has been around a while. If your a Subsimming Vet like me, you just learn to live with it.
Apparently they are living and breathing ocean. (I've had that happen in the past, as well, I reloaded the game and it stopped)

I wouldn't run LBO with TMO. TMO has it's own env. mod that is tweaked with sensors.

like most have stated its a pretty common bug, take the advice to dive, resurface and then save. Make sure there are NO contacts around you when saving games, and make sure you are on surface to save.
Welcome to subsim mate.

yep, also you get the CO2 thing where surfacing wont restore CO2 levels and the fix is the same

LBO is NOT for the v1.5 game and is for a much older version when the game was first released, it might actually work but its going to cause all sorts of issues for you because its not compatable with the updated game.

Hmmm...I've never had either of those things happen.

I think I had the crew bug. I have had the co2 bug. Most say it's caused by alt-tabbing out.

My experience has been that ALT-TABing brings on the CO2 problem, sometimes with as little as one ALT-TAB. The mission in progress can be recovered by saving the game, exiting the program, and restarting. When the mission resumes, the CO2 bug is gone. But I believe there is a simple way to avoid this problem: Don't ALT-TAB from an active game. Pause the game by going to the Options menu. Then ALT-TAB out. I haven't noticed any problems when I use that routine. Has anyone else had a different experience?

I concur with BigWalleye, I've never had a problem using the same method.

Maybe this is why I've never had it. If I must ALT-TAB out (which is seldom), I pause first.

i never understood why people used the alt-tab thing, i always just use the "esc" key myself

I rarely alt+tab, but run into this problem frequently. That doesn't mean that there's not some background process causing it through, such as a messenger application or a firewall popup or whatever...
What I do know though, is that as the length of time you play in one sitting without saving/reloading increases, so does the probability of this happening.
For my money, speaking as a software engineer, the co2 bug and crew on deck underwater bug are actually the same bug. I think what's happening is that the surfaced/submerged status of the boat is not getting updated correctly. I can't say anything regarding where the break is exactly, or what effect it may have on being spotted and or what effects it may have on the sensors on your boat.

You know how in SH3 you could run half submerged to get your sonar to work but still have your diesels to run? (i forget the depth)
well, is that still possible in SH4? I tried doing the same thing, but maybe my depths are off. anyone know at what depth the batteries kick in?

I suspect you're talking about the snorkel. sh4 doesn't model it.
If you're talking about running decks awash, it varies somewhere around 30 to 35 feet.

with sh4 you are partly submerged then thats the only way the AI see you, at decks awash the game AI will still see anything above water so you will end up being spotted for attack from both.
ColonelSandersLite,
What you said would make sense. It could explain why some have the problem a lot and others don't.

I agree. You are probably right that a status flag is being mishandled.

Based on my own experience, I have to disagree with this statement. I frequently play for several hours at a time, sometimes an entire day. I haven't kept a log, but anecdotally, occurence of the CO2 bug has never appeared to correllate with playing time. In fact, I have seen this bug occur during fairly brief sessions. I have seen an apparent correlation with my use (and non-use) of the ALT-TAB, although your experience suggests that there is at least one other way to trigger the problem. The situation seems similar to the corrupted-save issue - posters have had various experiences with the cause of the problem and how to avoid it. Without a look at the code, we will probably never find a fool-proof work-around.

@Walleye
I don't save/load very often either. I'm very much the type of guy that accepts whatever outcome happens, with the sole exception of hitting major bugs.
Let me put it like this though: The common consensus is that alt+tabbing is the major factor. Now in my case, I get this bug alot but do not alt+tab. However, let's suppose that the problem is actually when certain programs ask to be brought to focus (whether it succeeds or not). Let's also suppose that one of these programs is steam (and I'm not saying it is for sure). The longer you play, the more likely it is that someone on your steam friends list is going to log on, and steam will attempt to popup the message to let you know. Of course there are a lot of other programs that are also attention whores and randomly popup messages wanting to update or whatever. If this is the case, there are a few possible programs on my machine that could be causing this consistently.

Sounds very reasonable. Nothing in my experience conflicts with it. I see the problem only when I ALT-TAB, but I won't go near Steam and I ruthlessly suppress any programs that launch pop-ups.
