Hello all,

I'm just getting back into SHIII after a year-long hiatus caused by IL-2: Dark Blue World. Anyway, I'm trying to install GWX Gold and according to the directions, one must first install these patches. I installed a clean stock version from DVD. I then tried to install the requisite patches (1.1-1.4b) and none of them will work. This is the error message that pops up:

"This program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter III emea dvd v1.0 because of the following reason:
c:\games\data\menu\de_menu.txt: file missing

I'm also wondering if I need to install all the patches, or does 1.4b contain all the previous updates? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

Oh, and forgive me if this is posted in the wrong forum. I took a look around and searched, but nothing came up.

Thanks again!

Start the game and check the version number on the lower right hand corner of the main menu. It could be that you're already patched.

Also, make sure that the patch you've downloaded is for the correct version of SH3 you have. There's US and European versions of the game floating around, each with their own version of the patch.

If all else fails, start over:

1) Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2) Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3) Reinstall SH3
4) If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:

As Mookiemookie said, you can look at the opening screen to find your current version. You can also look at the box. If it was published in 2008 or later, it is fully patched.

I'm also wondering if I need to install all the patches, or does 1.4b contain all the previous updates? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
Yes, 1.4b is all you need.

I'm certain this is the case, since the message you recieved is the one everybody has reported when having this problem; and there have been many.

No, you posted in exactly the right place.
