Pig Pens... solid concrete LOL

OK, just started using SH5... put at the moment still prefering SH4. SH5 very pretty, but seems to lack the functionality of SH3/4 Perhaps I need to get into it more...

One thing that was fun after sending some merchant med to the bottom and then returning to Kiel I tried to dock Das Boot in the concrete sheltered Pig Pen... lined it all up, slow ahead, periscopes down as they looked like they would hit the roof... lots of lovely water sloshing around in the pen... but all you get is the sound of grinding metal on concrete as it butts up against an invisible wall! It seems you have to accept the 'canned' entry to the docking bay :( Pretty unrealistic. When I drive my F1 sim car into the pits... I can steer the sucker in.

I presume all you guys on here are SH5 converts... but anyone here still prefer SH3/4 from those that have played them?

You want to know what's worse? In 1939 there was no sub pen at Kiel. It wasn't finished until 1944.

Worse still? There never was one at Wilhelmshaven at all. :dead:

Don't let history get in the way of over ambitious graphics designers! haha... Actually think it would be cool to dock at a pier. Maybe a auto dock after you hit exit patrol....shows line being throw...being tied down. Would add a little immersion. What about victory flags, the girls and the band? AOD at least had a little movie of you pulling in with band and 'merchant sunk' flags.

Honestly, i have more fun with SH5.
I played all the series, but i prefer the Atlantic theater ambiance :rock:
Sometime, i fire SH4 modded TMO etc, but nothing like in old Atlantics U boats!

Weird, I can be wrong, but I remember having manually docked mein boot at Kiel without that many scratches. :hmmm:

Victory flags: you could use TDW's sub flags mod. But you would have to exit from game, manually select the wanted flags (only two), reload game and savegame, etc :shifty: is it easier in SHIII?

If I can remember correctly, I had the same problem. After a lot of bumping and scraping, I finally found that you can only get into one "pen". For me it was the one on the far left (sounds political) and I was able to back in eventually.
