Ubuntu is releasing their own mobile touch OS.
It is not a separate operating system, instead, it is a "hybrid" OS. It is both a phone and computer operating system. You can plug your phone in, and it runs full Ubuntu:

Even the apps are the same!
With the arrival of the Ubuntu SDK, apps can be written to work on all Ubuntu form-factors: it’s the same Ubuntu OS on the desktop and on the phone, so a single native application can work on both.
I would expect to see a lot of touch friendly applications in the Ubuntu software center. This might even make Ubuntu take off on touchscreens, something that they have been trying to do for a long time.
With CES coming up in a few days, I am hoping to be able to see a demo of Ubuntu Phone, maybe a hands on impression with a journalist. I mean, Ubuntu phone is a more drastic move than ever before seen. It is much more than what iOS and OS X is, it is even more a convergence device than what windows 8 allows!
