Radio messages not showing (icon greyed out)

I'm Rick (Rickedd), new to this forum and I am not seeing messages from the radio room
even the icon is greyed out
could any one please help

It would help a great deal if you could post any mods you may be using. If you are new to this game, you will find the mods and patches necessary to get any bugs out of your gameplay. So before we can help, it would be good to know. Also it wouldn't hurt to tell us your system and graphics card.
This sounds like an easy fix, there are several types of radio messages available depending on your mod set. If you don't have any mods it would be good if you could check out the mods forum for some basic (but important) set ups.
Check back ASAP and we will sort this out.

Hi dogfish40 and Her Berbunch and Thanks for your responses
I have activated "NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0_ByTheDarkWraith"," Accurate German Flags", "sobers better terrain v3 SH5" and "sobers waves mod V7 01012013" using JSGME and it has enhanced the game play very well it shows a radio message icon on the right hand side which is greyed out I know this works because I have been watching the tutorial videos on you tube at the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRNJ1I_lodQ by j2jonjermery and i think it was video 2 or 3 were he applied the mods and it show the radio messages no probs.
I know there must be tons of updates and mods to use and I am sure with the help of you guys I will find the right ones any advise on which ones to use would be good..

my PC is a HP pavillion dv6 6001sa with is a AMD pheonom(tm) II 1.8GHz Quad-core uP and 4GB ram and Radeon video chipset I have no probs running any other games and it runs SH5 on max settings by default

I have to agree there. I always use Sober's list as a compass nowadays because he's one of the members who's really up to date with most all the mods. I'm not sure if I understand the radio room messages being "grayed out".
Does that mean that you are not seeing any messages incoming to the boat, or, you're not getting messages from the radio room (Radioman)?!
I see that you have loaded TDW's UI, good move, I will also suggest Mighty Fine crew: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1572, and the "More Crew CommandDialog"

These alone may fix the radio message difficulty.
Again, check out Sober's list. Loading up these mods greatly improves the game and takes care of a lot of bugs. Make sure to keep the order of the mods as this is important as well.
There is a Patcher released by TDW that will fix even more bugs and increase functionality of the boat.
After loading up some of these, please check back and tell us how the radio problem is. Since your mods seem to work I am assuming you have the 1.2 patch loaded as well?!

Yes, me too.
I don't see some messages when the message box is flashing and it's noticed i have received a new message.
Sometimes i have new message in it, but very often it's empty...

Thanks Guys for the posts and the recommended mods I shall take time to 'plough' through them and get them activated.

The radio messaging problem is now sorted... Call me a 'cod fish' as I installed the game and it put the installed folder in c:\ubisoft\silent hunter 5 by default... I being a stickler for keeping my folders tidy moved it (cut and paste) to c:\program files (x86)\ubisoft\silent hunter 5.... big mistake, as this must have messed up paths to the game stopping the radio from working correctly... now I have move it back to its original default place, its all working OK as it should....

Something else I just thought of. I think you are missing the actual radio messages for the TDW's UI mod. (I think this mod) it's own additional set of radio messages from BDU ect, specific to your boat number. Your boat number can all be changed in the UI settings ie: the boat number and the captains name.
It sounds like some of these messages are being interrupted or have been erased by another mod or just a bad load.
If the messages continue to be a problem, I suggest a Downloading (if you haven't saved the mod already) and reinstalling the UI mod, along with any of the other mods that came with it. If you keep the UI mod "up the ladder" a bit, other mods will not overwrite anything in the new UI. (They are usually compatible but...you never know) In short, it just sounds to me like those radio messages are the ones that are missing.

bit confused the radio meassaging seems to be working now did you see my earlier post on this thread It was my own fault why it stopped working...

any further suggestion for mods would be good..

still trying to master how to launch a torpedo and hit a dam boat they keep shooting past..LOL

Oh yes. I glad it was worked out. Yeah, I still posted that because there was another who posted about having the problem as well, so I posted the thought.

Yes and thank you Dogfish.
But in the list above, my NewUIs is only overwriten by the others additional NewUIs mods and the IO strategic map.
Messages can't be erased by those mods imo.

I suspect more a failure from New_radio_message_german :hmmm:
