This one one of my favorites I remember. Funny thing when you went down a big hill, you had to let go of the handles and hang on. It was a blast on hills covered in ice.

My Hornby Advanced Passenger Train, if I'd been allowed to play with it. My father bought it for xmas but the APT project had been cancelled (but later sold on and used successfully) he thought it'd be rare and worth something so I wasn't allowed to play with it except fewer than a handful of times.

I still have one boxed, hardly used, Hornby APT and am open to sensible offers.

http:// www.lskauctioncentre.co.uk/media/73516/932.jpg

It's also a good job I double checked my phone's autocorrect of this post or else I'd have a Horny APT, and that's just scary!

The toy that I was allotted to play with, and I certainly got my money's worth out of was my Millennium Falcon (and other SW stuff).

That would have been a more sensible reason as to why the project was cancelled than the real reason. :haha:

My favourite toy...now you're asking, I did have a lovely Tomy train set, that took up the entire floor of the spare room, had a big bridge and everything. That used to be fun to watch the trains go round. And then there was the teddy bear that my Mum and Dad got for me when they went out once and my Nan was looking after me, I still have that bear. :yep: But alas the Tomy train set has long disappeared into the past.

I still have my Thomas the Tank engine die-cast toy collection somewhere though, up in the attic I think. Including some with the legend of "Made in West Germany" on the bottom. Shows my age! :haha:

We use to cut forks off other bikes then shove them into the existing forks and make choppers our of our bikes. That bike would've been a prime chopper conversion...

LOL :)

I always remember being about five years of age when my parents bought me an electric train set (don't recall scale) fully laid out with hills and scenery etc.

They purchased from an enthusiast, it was mounted on something like a 12' x 12' board and came with custom built trestles for standage.

I was probably far too young to appreciate it and in hindsight it was probably something my father enjoyed and appreciated far more but the distant memories are still there.

Mine was certainly Lego and I was the first Playmobil generation, it came on the market when I was 2.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3c/First_Playmobil.jpg/640px-First_Playmobil.jpg

As Playmobil has always been on the expensive side, I combined the two worlds, for example I built my pirate ship for the Playmo guys from Lego.
Oh I also had tons of plastic soldiers, inherited a huge amount from my cousin when he grew out of it.

This is really freaking sad.
The equivalent for me would have been the ghettoblaster, the tv and the ham radio. All things I had access to and certainly spent a lot of time with. Though it would never come to my mind as my favorite toy(s).

I have many fond memories of nice toys as a kid.

Probably, if I had to pick ONE, I would have to go with

As both an introvert and a chess nut, having a machine where I could play my favourite game by myself was a great thing.

1977.

My close second would be

Also 1977. 1977was a good year for asocial introverts who liked to play games, but had no friends. :D

I had the G.I. Joes and Legos but my personal favorite where these bad boys.

These are AirFix 1:32 but as a kid in the US at least where I lived you could get the same molds in a big bag they where smaller though 1:35 roughly about 20 or 30 came in each bag.I had several bags worth or British,German, and Japanese and maybe one bag of Russians and I also had some Korean War era Chinese Peoples Army figures as well.

I used to dig extremely elaborate WWI style trench systems in the dirt and play with the soldiers in them.I would even have interlocking MG nests.

I also had US troops Vietnam style.

Oh no these where toys not models they where made of a softer plastic not polystyrene. Most likely they took the molds for the models and reduced their size and used a more play friendly plastic.I just can tell that they used the Airfix(or who ever owned before Airfix) molds and made toys from them.I just used those pictures because they are as close as I can find to the toys I had.

I did alot of scale modeling as well but more as a teenager mostly aircraft in 1/48 and 1/72 scale. Tamiya are very good but a tad pricey I loved how you could build something in a static mode with gears and such down or up and the doors and all fit nice and flush closed most other companies you could not do that without crafty work to make things look correct.Dragon where pretty darn good as well. My favorite Tamyia was the 1/48 scale A6M2-n Rufe.I also had every F4U that they made.I made the 1/35 scale PBR 31 MK.II as well that thing was sweet i spent at least a month on that one getting it right mostly with paint and weathering.

I've got no picture of my favorite toys, that I had during my childhood.

But even though I got it for my 3 years birthday I remember it very well

You have to understand that we were very, very poor, so all these things you had was only things we could dream of.

Back to my so beloved toy.

It was a homemade truck/lorry with a real cabin and I could tip the ....(can't remember the name) that could be filled with sand or other things.

My dad made it not just a good job in making all these things possible, he also made so tuff that I could sit or jump on it( I had a real temper as kid)

He also made some dollhouses to my sisters.

Toy blocks. Simple uniform, uncoloured wooden toy blocks. I looved them, sicne allways. My fantasy knew no limits, I build a galaxy of worlds with them. And some really malicious, evil, sick-minded execution machines.

Second came chess figures, which I did not use as chess figures exclusively but also as toy soldiers and toy cowbays and toy indians, doing battle with them in the worlds I built with the bricks before. Call it 3-dimensional chess :D That way, my first chess set died multiple miserable deaths when I was five and six, and many pawns ended in the before mentioned execution machineries.

I also had a wonderful teddy bear, a really beautiful baby-grizzly. For the softer side in me. :yeah:

Like many here, one of my favorite toys was Lego. My favorite cartoon was Voltron, but we were too poor for me to get the set of lions that joined together to form the "Defender of the Universe".

A week ago I had a birthday and my sister sent me this:

https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KhhHxRkc9ec/WzW5cYt-MLI/AAAAAAACgvA/YIRMYSfeBPsmSdqUP0ljBW-29hf7CQs8QCLcBGAs/s1600/LEGO%2BIdeas%2BVoltron%2B2.png

2,321 pieces and it stands almost 18 inches tall when assembled into Voltron. I was instantly a kid again!

In the antique shop in Grantham recently, Moira found this remote-controlled police car from the 1960s, which I had as a kid for Christmas one year. I thought it was the most amazing thing (my brother got a London Cab). It was so lovely to see this favourite toy once again. What a piece of crap

So how much did you get for it on eBay? :haha:

The plastic 'Swoppet' knights were my favourite; the parts were all interchangeable... swords came out of scabbards, visors could be up or down. The one below is my own... I kept them all because they were prized possessions.

They were relatively expensive even when I was a kid, so I'd either get one knight on foot with my weekly 2/6d pocket money, or save it for 2 weeks and get a mounted one for 5/- (five shillings)

I also have the two siege machines shown in the catalogue page, but I bought these not long after I got married when I came across them at a toy-fair, because my own had disappeared somewhere over the years

Basically all Star Wars toys from 1977-1983 and Lego and Playmobil.

Apart from that airfix and matchbox model kits.

He-man, Transformers, G.I.Joe's (the 80's ones), lego and had a few Meccano to build something more.

From my father's toy's. I did play with some, and as you said, the interchangeable pieces and the weapons that could be draw from the scarabs and holsters, was something wonderful.

Even as a child I found it kind of odd that I could have hundreds of 3 inch American soldiers from Vietnam, but there were no NVA or Vietcong available EVER. :hmmm:

Nice that you keep them there on the shelf, but some of those knights look like they've been through quite a few battles :)

I also have all of the American War of Independence figures (some are my original toys, some replacements)... including the scout with his buckskin coat, which only came in boxed sets and wasn't on sale individually, so he is more scarce. I'll take some pics later

My Britains AWI toy soldiers.

There was a field gun in this series but the crew were not 'swoppet' figures, since they were one-piece one-colour mouldings and entirely painted (like most other plastic toy figures of the time)... although they were modelled to match with these more sophisticated multi-part figures

Britains brought out some beautifully sculpted and animated toy figures at this time (the 1960s) like this rider from the showjumping series. He was modelled in an 'unbreakable' vinyl material, whereas the horse was in the usual polythene plastic. the reins, saddle and stirrups were also in brown vinyl plastic, which gave even more realism to their models at that time

There were many variations in the parts on these: many different weapons, helmet & visor styles, armoured legs & torsos, saddle types, shield shapes, horses (shape, colour and surcoat styles)... the scope for creating your own attractive models was endless

Oh yes, several battles according to my father. The storage during the years was also not perfect for that kind of plastic since in a attic, very hot in summer, the temperature differences did make the plastic to became more "breaky". He did save a few that were in better shape.

I read somewhere that talcum powder was sometimes added to the plastic used to produce toy figures to make them easier to remove from the moulds, and that this has led to their early deterioration

You just dare not risk anymore pulling these knights apart to swap them around... the plastic can break very easily

The increased risk of ovarian cancer when talc is used in the genital area could be caused by talc particles traveling into a woman’s body and causing inflammation, which creates an environment that allows cancer cells to thrive. Because talc particles can remain in the body for an extended period of time, conditions may be ripe for cancer to grow for several years. In fact, some experts estimate that one particle of talc would take eight years to dissolve.

Additionally, talc has been linked to breathing difficulties in young children. While it is extremely rare that inhaling talc is deadly, it has been known to happen. In fact, some babies have developed breathing difficulties and died after becoming covered in talc.

Some studies have also linked talc with an increased risk of lung cancer. These studies have analyzed the cancer rates of talc miners, but because they have been complicated by the fact that, unlike the purified talc in consumer products, talc in its natural form may contain varying amounts of asbestos and other minerals, making the evidence a bit unclear.:o  :dead: MY FAVORITE TOY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvQdl-05WEE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvQdl-05WEE)
Damn, can't even prevent chaffing anymore. :wah:

I've never seen that toy before, it's awesome. Those sailors look too squared away though. :03: They should have made a Soviet model with some glow in the dark plastic sailors and reactor compartment. :hmmm:
