cannot complete mission

Hello y'all. I recently started sh4 all over again and am now trying to 'insert' an agent into Osaka - but I have a problem. The big orange star thing which is supposed to indicate where you have to go is no-where near Osaka when you get into close-up, and even if I go to the nearest point to where I could touch it with the sub, the mission is not marked as complete, and if I go to Osaka ( which is where I am now, sitting in 30 ft in the dark), it still doesn't complete. I can't surface else I will get shot at). What do I have to do, or where do I have to go to complete this mission? I passed a juicy target in the shape of another Fleet carrier on the way in and want to have a pop at that on the way out...

Hi She-Wolf,

I too am having a retro-gaming period and have returned to the seas.

The drop-off missions are not very well explained and can be confusing. What I have found is that to complete the mission you have to be:

within 1/2 a mile (1,000yds) of the mission star - the star will usually be on land so within 1/2 mile of the nearest shore line.

You need to be on the surface (so best do this in the dark)

You need to be stopped (or at least very slow)

When you meet all of these criteria you will get a pop-up asking if you want to launch the raft.

thank you Cap'n, that is indeed what I found - I went back to the previous save at the star, did all that and up came the message, now all I have to do is get back to deeper water before one of these pesky planes sees me :up:
