I always wanted to play it but i didn't want to pay full price for a game i heard such bad reviews about.
I got to test it on my PC and i know i can run it. So does anyone know of any special holiday deals for this game?

Both Gamersgate and Steam sell it for 6,50 euros.

Sounds cheap said like that :haha:

Steam has it for $19.49 and considering its now officially unsupported maybe some stores sells them for even less?

Did you check Gamersgate? 6 euros should be around $8. :hmmm:

You could always see if one of your buddies in europe would be willing to buy it and gift it to you via steam?

As for the game: the latest patch made it very playable and stable. It is a shame that it is now unsupported but there is still quite a bit of activity on the ATAG and Repka servers, as well as of course us lot at II./JG53 are continuing with the sim until other options present themselves - just finished the Battle of Britain and are currently voting between continuing the channel map into the "Blitz" phase, using an online map for the Siege of Malta or "bending" history slightly and operating in the Greco-Italian war all in later 1940-early 1941.

If you can pick it up cheaply then I'd certainly say give it a shot!

Just checked it out, looks pretty good. Does it tie in with 1946, or is it a stand alone game?:hmmm:

Stand alone.

It is a good game, I've not played for a while and have only just got the latest, and last?, patch, but already it was a respectable game. Although with 777 doing the next IL2 game I really look forward to that one.

Its standalone.

You're right, Dowly. It is 6.49 on Steam UK. I tried buying from there but it converted me back to Canada and asked for 19.49 :(

Ohh well, if i can't find it for less i think i might just stick with 1946 for a while longer.
Recently started a new campaign as a BF109 pilot and just got the 109F-4... Oh boy.
These Russian planes don't stand a chance anymore. Shot down 3 in both my last 2 sorties hehehe.

^ Thanks, that exactly what i was looking for!
Do you know if its on special or the regular price?
I would've preferred to wait for next month before downloading it.
I'm pretty sure i'm close to my ISP bandwidth limit.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you.

I was recently trolling for a BoB-centric sim (settled on BoB II at the end of the day), and came across that deal.

Hope you enjoy it! The learning curve can be quite steep and the setup can take some time to get how you like it but its great fun!
If you ever fancy a bit of co-op action then you're more than welcome to check us out at www.iijg53.com (http://www.iijg53.com) - (forgive the shameless plug there!)

No worries :O:

The learning curve shouldn't be too steep, i've been playing IL-2 1946 for a little while so i know the basics.
How would you say the flight model compare if you played 1946?

You're right on the setup though, it does take some time but i was aware of this before i bought the game.
I'm starting to get something decent though. Should start my first training sorties soon

With regards to the flight models: they are not 100% and suffer from some speed issues and height limitations: engaging at contrail height is pretty much off the cards as the vast majority of aircraft cannot reach their historical operational ceilings, anything below 6000m is absolutely fine though.

Personally I find the CloD models better than IL2 46 (unmodded) as it feels like there is much more depth there. Once you have your controls setup properly the feeling in the stick is much nicer than enything in 46.

There is quiet a big jump between 46 and CloD in terms of aircraft management if you are running CEM switch on but the more stick time you get the quicker you'll get your head around it all. One hint I have, even if you want to run "full switch" make sure you don't tick anphromorphic controls to ON - its pretty bugged especially if you are like me and have a self-calibrating stick, because of this the vast majority of servers have this option off.
