Weather:
Obviously some of us have surfaced in choppy water and have noticed how badly we get tossed around especially when we're doing math and taking out a target with quite a bit of distance behind it. Weather, in any nautical based game or even in real life is extremely important. So, is there some sort of mod or some sort of way for us to see the weather in the game? Where the choppy water is and where the storms are churning, where it's raining and where it isn't. Not sure if anyone has ever done this before, but I think it would be pretty cool to add if it hasn't been added already.
My question though is has anyone done this or something similar to this yet and if they have would it be compatible with OHII?
Great idea! I was wondering it as well...but don't think it's existing as avalaible mod yet (at least never saw it)
IMO, would be great to get a weather forecast feature! :yep:
As far as I know, SH weather is generated "on the spot", every time player's sub moves from zone to zone, or when the curren "weather change interval" elapses.
The only way I see for having weather forecasts, is by making the game to read either the current or the upcoming weather from a matrix of data stored on file. This one would be an hard task and would require a deep knowledge of the game code, since weather is hardcoded. I remember there was a discussion on it, but I guess the project was abondened even before starting.
If you are using Dynamic Environment, the closer you can get to a weather forecast is by looking at these tables:

They show real wind average speeds respectively for the months of January and July, and DynEnv's wind patterns were based on them.
Indeed, you cannot use them for forecasting the exact in-game wind speed, but they will let you know when and where you can expect high, low or medium winds. :yep:
See this post for more details and charts on the subject:

Could those charts be made available thru the "toggle charts visibility" button on the GUI , same as the flags ?
Could those charts be made available thru the "toggle charts visibility" button on the GUI , same as the flags ?
I think so (nice idea by the way ). This question should be addressed to TDW, DrJones and Reaper7 though, each for his respective UI.
Also, the charts would be misleading for players not using DynEnv, so I think they should be released as a DynEnv addition, rather than being included as standard charts in any UI mod. It would mean updating them every time an UI is updated, similarly to IO strategic map.
Anyway, I will draw some nice looking charts and I'll get in touch with DrJones and possibly with Obelix to see if they can help me out in making them compatible with the main SH5 UI mods. In the meanwhile you can get them in game by replacing one of their yet existing charts. Just ask me if you don't know what to change :)

After reading the book Enigma, I believe that each boat reported back the weather of its current position to BDU quite often (I think Daily actually which was one of the first steps in deciphering the messages). I've also seen Captain's logs denoting the Sea state each day and the Barometric pressure. Obvious to any person with some weather knowledge....pressure falling would signify a Low pressure "system" (aka storm..bad weather and sea state)...pressure climbing would be the opposite:sunny:.
I dont know if BDU would send out Isobars (lines of equal pressure) to the Uboats....that does not seem realistic in my mind. Nor did the obvious technology of advanced communication which didn't exist at the time ....fax...email...pretty pictures of weather.
What I do think is that the radio operator was capable of intercepting merchant radio chatter of bad weather...as this has always been common practice ..at least in peace time. I would think BDU would send "known" weather conditions to Uboats if it thought that it might effect operations or delay actions.....but I have not proof of that. I do know that BDU wanted strict radio contact with its Uboats early in the war (pre direction finding or suspected broken enigma code breaking)....and weather was passed all the time.
Unfortunately, until we have a "global" weather pattern in Simulators ...vice a change every couple of days...I dont think you going to get much out of weather maps. Personal opinion.
