Hi all,
I have been dropping in here for years to read the forum and now that I am fully retired thought I would finally register.

I recently picked up a new laptop with plenty of horsepower and a good graphics card running Windows 8. I installed SH3 with mods and SH4 with mods and they run and look great. I have been thinking about pulling the trigger and getting SH 5, but I am a bit confused on one thing. I read that one had to always be online to play...that stopped me cold, but I recently read a few post that have said ubisoft as relaxed that requirement....can someone tell me what "relaxed" means.

I don't have a problem going online to activate the sim, but would prefer to be able to play offline....hoping this is the case. On a side note, I broke out my old Apple IIc (never got rid of it) and booted up Gato....amazing how much subsims have advanced since then!

Thanks Kelly621

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:

"Relaxed" means that the online requirement has been removed, except that one must log on and register the game when it it is first run. After that you never need talk to them again.

As for subsims advancing, I still play SH4, Sh3, SH1 and the twenty-year-old Aces Of The Deep. Love 'em all.

I also want to remind you that you can talk to Steve, the thread "Dear Mr. Steve" on the GT if you have any questions regarding the most everyday life, feelings, books, everything. :O:

Thanks Steve....I am assuming that getting the retailed boxed version then patching will allow the offline play then?

Now I need to go and use the link on this site and buy SH 5.

That is correct. I was one of the ones who refused to buy it until the online requirement was dropped. Now I own it but never play it because it's too much for my crappy old computer. :dead:

That will help out Subsim. Thanks.

Welcome to SubSim Kelly. :salute: Yeah, the best way to go is the retail boxed SH5. Use the link here on SubSim to get it thru Amazon.com. Patched to 1.2 and mods will make it so much more playable, and you will really be hooked.

To all,
Thank you for the welcome. Just ordered SH 5 through the subsim store. After reading numerous post in this forum I realize that SH 5 has it's short comings, but I am sure over time the mod guru's will fix and enhance it just as they did with SH 3 and 4.
