Hello! I've downloaded the playable USS Iowa some days ago. Now I'm looking for a method to have no instant death while the ship is sinking. What can I do to see the ship sinking without a missionskip because the ships is destroyed?

Kind Regards,
Daniel

Welcome to the boat mate. :salute:

I don't think you can do anything about the sinking mechanics.
Once the game marks your ship as sunk that's it, game over.

A sub will sink to crush depth but surface ships are destroyed once they have reached a given damage model.

a long long time ago there was someone who had a No Instant Death mod, i think it had a few issues thou.

if i remember correctly i think it gave you a few extra seconds before you die but it also did this by using really wonky settings for the damage levels so you were way too hard to destroy.

Thank you for the quick reply ;)

Oh ok. And what is with No Instant Death Screen in SH3 when I use Warshipmod 3.0? It would be very nice to see my ship (Bismarck for example) sinking ;)

The mod you are looking for and which already has been mentioned is propably the Traveller Mod 1.7 for Operation Monsun, available at subsim.com.
If I may cite the readme of Traveller Mod 1.7 for OM:

- No more instant deaths from U-boat hull damage reaching zero. Original U-boat pressure hull integrity relevance has been completely removed. I wanted to implement this so the player can wait longer to see if they will really die or not. That uncertainty is always fun. I don't want this feature to be considered a cheat, as I have tried very hard to balance this by changing other game perimeters.

EDIT: There is also a Travellers Mod with the no-instant death modification for TMO 2.5 available on subsim.com, not only for OM.

Thank you, Claves Mortis!

I will try this mod and I hope it will work with the playable Surfaceships in Silent Hunter 4 ;)

i prefer another way from this quick death ....lets say you pass the hitpoints and the whole ship explodes....seconds after this all crew member dies and after that lights slowly out;D what do you say people?

I think the trav mod is for subs only...

There is nothing wrong with your idea, but how to implement it?

The game was developed on the basis that there were subs, and target ships; they never intended for there to be playable surface ships, unfortunately.

The only time I have ever died playing the Iowa was when I was using the Fubuki Destroyer mod that enabled them to launch torpedoes at surface ships.

Loved the mod but you better do some very good maneuvering if they tract runs perpendicular to yours while they are still 2000 yards out.

After getting sunk three times in a row from torpedoes I learned quickly to take out the Fubuki from long range if possible before they could launch the torpedoes.
