Hi,
A Friend gave me this game as he stoped playing it and I'm looking for some 'Game enhancements' for version 1.4.
I've looked at the download page and bin snooping around reading a lot but there are so many mods around for SH4 1.4 and 1.5 versions, not to mention they're all mixed up in the same folders that I'm not sure which MOD to use.:hmmm:
My friend recalled he liked playing the game with:
- Larger bearing tool
- TriggerMaru
(seen 2.5, but is it compatible with the 1.4 version of the game)?
- Some optical target correction mod
(He told me this one is important for accurate manual targeting. I found the OTC for 1.4 but wonder if its compatible with TriggerMaru 2.5)
- And most important, a environment mod for eye candy
(He told me TriggerMaru has one build in but he recalled a better mod but couldn't remember if it was compatible with it).
Could someone please give me a hand and tell me which of these MOD's are compatible if at all or give some suggestions regarding MOD's that would make the game better.
_ PS I'm not a diehard player who's going for max realism but more a happy hunter where stock is to easy.
Thx in advance for your help. :salute:

Here is the link to TMO 1.4; I believe the "Bigger, Better Protractor" mod is not version specific, but I'm not sure about that. And OTC for 1.4 should work, as you already noted. There is also a 1.4 version of Real Fleet Boat, if you want to try that out.
Good luck!

Thx a lot for the links posted.
Got a problem concerning OTC for 1.4.
I've installed the mod through JSGME and it seems to be working as I can see on the loading screen, however, I cannot find the recognition manual.. There is a 'ID target' which is great but the popup stats I still need to send the targets height from the rec. manual for use of the stadimeter:hmm2:
Is there a specific button or place where I can find it or has it bin left out of this mod.
Using the stadimeter, do I still overlay to the mast height or has that changed to a some what easier spot.

"N" is the hotkey for the Recognition Manual. If this doesn't work, you may not have a correct install. OTC has several versions, depending on what supermods you are using, and there are additional sub-mods to tailor it to your particular monitor aspect ratio. If you are getting strange behavior, check carefully to see that you have installed the correct versions of everything to be compatible with your modload and computer setup.
OTC is a great mod. But you have to get all the right pieces installed for it to work properly. It's not as easy to install as some other mods, but it is worth the effort.

Thx,
I'll give it a go.
The way I installed the MOD's using JSGME is:
TMO for 1.4
Optical targeting correction 1.4
OTC metric tools
OTC 1.4 for 8 to 5 aspect ratio
In this order, don't know if thats the correct way of the instalation as I cold find anything regarding the order of installing the OTC other then "first load" Optical targeting correction 1.4 and then load OTC metric tools

The order of the Optical Targeting Correction mods are correct. Always activate the "main" OTC mod first, then any of the following additional mods.
One problem though, OTC is not compatible with TMO for 1.4. There were many versions of Trigger Maru (even several before Ducimus added the "Overhauled" part to the title), so the question is......Which version of TMO are you using? Not that it makes a lot of difference. OTC will give you problems when combined with any TMO 1.4 version.
If you want targeting correction I'd just use the OTC for 1.4 edition. Or, try the "OTC for RFB 1.4" version, after loading RFB 1.4 (found HERE (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=510)).
You may ask why don't I have a compatible version of OTC 1.4 for TMO? For one thing, both RFB and TMO have stopped supporting anything to do with the SH 1.4 version. You have a problem with them, don't expect either to make a fix. Actually, both Ducimus and LukeFF have "left the building" (only stopping by every now and then to look in on the minions that use their mods). Back when RFB was being put together, I helped SWDW, and had a direct hand in some of the ways RFB looks today. I decided to make an OTC version for RFB 1.4 mainly due to that previous work. I just never got around to looking at any version of TMO that works with SH4 1.4.

Firstoff I'd like to thank you and modders like you for making a fun game better and more playable :salute:
THe link I got from Bubble is as far as I can see TMO 1.4 however the release date is 05-05-2009.
If you want targeting correction I'd just use the OTC for 1.4 edition.
As far as I can see the OTC version I have is 1.4 with release date of 08-01-2011.
I had 2 CTD's and now I know why... its a shame tho cause the targeting of the stock game is... well you know
The stock game is graphically horrible hence the search for eye candy.
I seen another mod called SCAF and am wondering if that could be working with TMO 1.4. Gonna give it a try next week as I'n off this week.

As pabbi points out, there is a SCAF edition for TMO 1.4 (it's this download (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=663)).
But.....you need to know the limitations of SCAF compared to OTC.
As anyone who has played the game realizes, the stock game misses the mark with manual targeting (pun intended!). My attempt to fix a broken system was to make sure the stadimeter heights were as close as possible to giving a player an accurate range finding when using the stadimeter. My problem with SCAF (which had several generations of updates), doesn't take into account that the sub will give different range measurements depending on which direction you take the stadimeter measurement from. It's a stock issue and was passed on through mods that didn't know such a problem existed.
Second, the periscope/TBT scope lens have no way of providing a measuring tool for range finding. To be sure, that's why the Telemeter Divisions are on the lens......but the game doesn't consistently render the Camera View (what you see through the scopes) at an accurate Field of View width to make that possible. So a very basic and authentic way a measuring targets is nothing more than eye candy with the stock system. SCAF does nothing to these views since I didn't (nor anyone else) know this problem existed. Only after extensive testing did I begin to see that the different resolutions/aspect ratios change the camera view, making them different to each player. The stock game Telemeter Divisions are useless to any kind of measurement capability.
Third, the SCAF mod doesn't provide any changes to the games radar (either surface or air). You've got the same stock radar setup that's very much like the Telemeter Divisions on the scope........their just eye candy. The surface radar has no way of measuring anything. It will miss a nearby target as easily as a far off one, and you won't have a clue as to how far away it is. You'll get somewhat of an idea of the blips bearing (when it works) but that's it.
I could go on but you get the idea. OTC was designed to be the next generation for SCAF. Giving you accurate dimensions (both height and length), and providing a game "view" that allows for measuring those dimensions accurately (no matter what resolution/aspect ratio a player uses). It's what we expected in the game but never got.
Another suggestion is to buy (for less than ten bucks) the SH4 Gold Edition bringing up your game to version 1.5. Buy a CD version....no downloaded STEAM upgrade! You'll be happy you did, and never need to play the Nazi's side in the Pacific!?!
