Star Wars fans around the world are coming together on the internet to construct a real-life version of the film's Millennium Falcon spacecraft.

Conceived by a US fan in Nashville, Tennessee, the Full Scale Millennium Falcon Project aims to use the internet to crowd-source efforts to build the famous ship, which will be adorned with all the trimmings aside from a working engine.

With the help of an intricately designed 3D model created by college student Stinson Lenz, a project contributor in Alabama has already erected the console of the craft as well as one of its two laser guns.

Project founder Chris Lee has purchased an 88-acre (35-hectare) plot of land in Tennessee on which the ship will sit.

He intends to use the "fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy" as a place to hold workshops for students who wish to learn to weld, paint or build.

May the force be with him as well as the cash receipts.

You know what this means.....

We're sub fans. Therefore, we must build a full size sub. Maybe a U-boat or a bigger Fleet Boat. A nuke boat is too expensive.

So only the console and two (scaled) quad-guns built? :hmm2:

This may take some time, and you watch Disney come in now with a lawsuit.

With enough ongoing cooperation from the community I bet you could replicate a non functioning movie set quality type VII in a relatively short time

A non-functional Millenium Falcon? Pah. Pathetic. Think big, do the real deal.

Students of the Pennsylvania University have calculated that you would need 1,080,000,000,000,000 tons of steel for that. With current rates of steel production on Earth, that would take 800,000 years.

If you're referring to our plan to build a U-boat in the outback, it's so that Neal has somewhere pretty to put his servers. And he can look dingoes.

I had plans to build a shed out back that looks like a type VII running with decks a wash a few years ago.

The idea is to have the Hull as a deck and the Turm as the shed part.
BBQ's would be killer on something like that.
:haha:

Not the sub. The sub could be constructed and made to work like a sub. The Falcon not so much. It is one of those deals where after completion everyone steps back looking at it as they state, "Now what?"
