I play GWX with Cmdr without the renown replacement.

I like to start in August 1940, I get the VIIC I want and time to train a crew and finally some needed renown to buy "trinkets" for the boat before all heck breaks loose.

What is your ideal start date?

I start three separate careers in August 1939, one in each flotilla, in all three types of boats. When one finally retires or dies, I replace him with a new career starting at that same place and time.

GWX 3 w/SH Commander. Favourite start date is July 1944 with a Type VII snorkel boat.

May 7th 1945 quick spin in the Harbour before we surrender. :har:

Joking aside as soon as I can get down under in warmer waters West of Australia.

I have two favorites that I like.

Das Boot start, October 1941, or for a real challenge summer 1943.

I like to start from the beginning. August 39 in Königsberg or sometimes in Kiel with a Typ II.

I sometimes start late 44 with a Type XXIII when looking for a change and a greater challenge.

Same here, using SH3 Commander's "Simulate a realistic career length".

At some point I think I'd like to actually make it to 1944.:o

My preference is to start in -41 with type IID and then change to VIIC. IMO that year offers good balance in challenge and chance. By -43 it's retirement or death.

I am running two careers. The first is a "realistic" one starting in August 1939 with a VIIB, 2nd flotilla. The second is a "what if" with a XXI in Bergen in April 1944.

1st of August '39, or 1st of whatever month after my previous commander died in action.

Before operation Paukenschlag. Love the tanker-hunt in the American, Canadian and Carribean waters with my U-552!
