I have SH3(raw) and it works fine. I have iinstalled the GWX and it seems to work Ok but I get crashes every once in a while while playing. Any suggestions as to why that is happening?
Today I also downloaded several other mods (thomsen's sound pack, milk cows, GWX all weather guns, etc and I can not get any of them to work. I noticed in the read me files that they say to enable it. What and how do you do this? I have placed the folder in the GWX game file under mods but there doesn't seem to be any changes to the game. What am I doing wrong?

You can't just put a downloaded file into JSGME. First you have to extract the mod from the zipped Download file. The best tool for this is www.7zip.com (http://www.7zip.com). Once you have the folder removed from the zipped file, that folder needs to go into the MODS folder. Then you open JSGME and transfer the mod from the left side to the right 'Enabled' side. Then it will work.
You do not need the milk cows mod, they are already in GWX.
Look for the icon with a yellow G on a grey background in your main SH3 directory, that is the button to open JSGME and allow you to enable the mods. A word of caution, only enable and disable mods while in port between patrols. Good luck!

Ok ...installed WinZip and extraxted the files to mods. Open JSGME and could see the mods on the left. Moved them to the right and went back to the game to start from port. I do not see or hear anything different than before. Same voices and same screens all over the boat. So am I not giving it enough time to get out to sea? What am I doing wrong? Do I have to completely remove the game and start with a fresh copy of SH3?

Ok...thanks. I will not include milk cows mod. When you say Only able disable mods while in port are you saying that I have to finish all my saved at sea careers (different capt) to be able to get it to work. IN other woards I have 2 careers going. One I have many many hours on and are currently saved while at sea. The other career I just started and have lest that 2 missions on. So do I have to finish both and dock?

Welcome to SUBSIM rcflyertim. :salute:
Thanks I am looking forward to playing the game. i bought it in 2005 but only played it for about 10 hours then and put it away. SO 7 yrs later it is installed on a new computer and I am trying to get the mods to work which looks really cools from all the input from the developers. GWX installed fine but nothing else so far seems to work. I am sure most of it is me since I am not a gamer and no very little about tweeking files and mods. So any help for newbies is welcome for sure.
Yes all careers going from a single copy of SH3 need to be in port between patrols because any changes to the game files will cause the game to crash when resuming a patrol at sea. The save was based off the the old file set and will conflict with the new set, thus causing the game to crash. Once the changes are made while in port, you can resume the careers.

Ok....after trying different things to get the mods to work on JSGME I found the solution. I had to right mouse click the SH3 icon on my desktop and tell it to run as administrator. Once I did that, the mods are working. So my question now is once I add additional mods will I have to go back and do that request again (to run as admin) or will that be the default now.

From the start menu, find SH3 and right click. Select Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Check "Run this program as an administrator" Click OK.
