Hi all. SH4 on my computer (1.5) TMO 2.5 and RSRDC_TMO_v502 installed. American career mode play, but the AI is very little. I can not find the enemies. A whole patrol was able to do just a 3-ship. Is that normal? What do you recommend?

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:

RSRDC is designed to give historical ship movements. They stick to certain areas, and unless you go to where they are there aren't likely to be any. You just need to find out their routes and go to those places.

There were a lot of ship traffic and vice versa sh4 modeless playing and I was not happy about it. I'm going to patrol duties necessarily given on the map. But I can not find any enemy ship. Maybe you can give a hint on the following dates go around here like?

(Convoy Routes TMO+RSRD) This plugin solves my problem?

Remember RSRD is historical almost to perfection, so a lil study on history can find ships. Course some complain once you learn RSRD you can easily find the same traffic over and over.

You'll find more traffic if you start from Manila when the war begins. After that the IJN moves south taking over Borneo, Java, etc. Many of the invasion fleets are very large 30-60 ships. Lot's of action in the Solomons in 42, including numerous battles small to large.

The convoy map mod for TMO/RSRD shows RSRD shipping lanes. The shipping lane along the west coast of Borneo is one of the best. Formosa is also very good in 44.

You can always open up RSRD campaign layers with the ME and take a look, but as a newer player I would advise to play awhile first.

It's funny how many times this topic comes up. I had the same issue the first time I started playing these mods. What I didn't understand until later was that I didn't start off having a radar on the boat. I would just sail around waiting for ships to show up on the map and get frustrated when they didn't. I could not understand how others found convoys in the areas I was in. Then I read about having to dive and listen for ships did I start to find them.

I still have a tough time finding ships early in the war but it's getting better. I also DL'ed Convoy Routes to see if it would help any but that just tells where they could be not where they are. Later in the war when you get radar things get a little better. I didn't want to start out with a boat with all the bells and whistles. I wanted to work my way up.

I agree with Armistead to play the game without cheating to see where the ships are. That takes away from the whole experience.

Your sonar works fine on the surface except for the S-boat. Always pay attention for in game lagging or stutter, means a group just entered your contact zone. Man sonar yourself to find it once you notice lag. Some people keep the stop watch up so they can notice better.

Early war is the time to find the large invasion fleets.

That was the problem that I had. I started in an S boat with no radar/sonar and in the beginning I didn't know about the lag trick. When I did find out I was already half way into the war and my boat had radar then.

As I stated I just started a new campaign in an S boat (without sonar) and I'm looking for those big fleets but now I know a few tricks and tips that the vet Captains know. Its still hard finding them and when i do catching them in an S boat is another thing.

That's why most of us chose this mod to get away from the unrealistic stock game and to have a more fun and challenging game. As others have stated, do a little reading on battles and do a search on jap convoy routes. If you go back a couple pages I think there was a link to a pacific map that showed all the major battles. I'm sure someone can post the link as I'm on an iPad right now.
