Saw a link to an old Popular Science thing in the SH5 threads.
(Yea, I'm lazy and provide no link. Live with it. :haha:)

UnderGround Coal Gasification is what interested me.
Useing scientific investigative enquires, (Google), I found there's a World Wide Association, (Conspiracy), determined to light fires in underground Coal seams.
:hmmm:

Now I'm not sure how people in Pennsylvania feel about lighting Underground Coal on fire, on PURPOSE!

But I can see a big disaster waiting to happen!
Kind of like the Soviets decideing it was a good idea to burn gases off in Turkmanistan.
:haha:

Shades of an inland Deepwater Horizon!
I mean, what could go wrong?
:nope:

We can't, (or won't), put out the fires burning in thousands of places (known) around the World.

Now we want to start more on purpose?
:hmmm:

I may be an un-official Village Idiot.
But even I can see the 'bad' side of this little stroke of genious!
I'd say it's much like setting a forest on fire and saying you can ALWAYS control it!
How many back-burns and controlled fires went wild?

Let me see if I can get this right...set fire to a coal seam underground?

Sure...why not...what could possibly go wrong?

Nope. I really don't care who or what destroys this planet.
I just get a bad feeling when I see what is really under-thought kinds of things that can lead to major disasters!
Deepwater was safe by everyone involved.
So was Three Mile island.
Or Chernobyl and Door to Hell.

Of course, there must come to many measures, in some cases drastic to have a chance to steer the boat.

Centralia is a good example of an accidental fire still burning.
Pre-dateing 3 Mile Island? It wiped out a town.
Though accidental in how it started. What if a UCG went bad?

Engineers have been designing and building disasters for years. It's only the good designs you see everyday. The bad designs are a law suit waiting to happen. :haha: Let's take a good look at lawn darts. Great design and idea. However, lawn darts are deadly. Bad design and idea in the end.

and Door to Hell.

*Googles* Whoa, didn't know about that one.

Unfortunately, with our development we live in a vulnerable society, you would think that technology helps us, of course it does so, but far from fully we need to go back and get some perspective on our day and future.

It may not be a bad design or idea given you can control every aspect of things.
Deepwater may have been a good design then 'people' screwed that up!
Same with 3MI and Chernobyl.

Human error, not design errors.

Now again? What could possibly go wrong?
:har:
