View Full Version : SH5 - Online Purchase - Is there hope?

Hey guys - Just bought SH5 online yesterday. I haven't been unable to install the v1.2 patch & from what I've been able to gather from the Ubi & Sumsim forums, I, and all online consumers, might just by SOL (I've already wasted several hours trying to get this game to a functional state). Current version is almost unplayable & it looks like most of the mods require the v1.2 patch. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me out with the following:

-- is there a way to install the v1.2 for the online SH5 (Gold edition... which has no improvement from the standard SH5 that I can discern)?

-- if not, are there any mods that can be implemented w/o the v1.2 patch?

-- has anyone else experienced this problem? it seems almost criminal to continue to sell online games/licenses if they will not be supported, especially since the bugs impact fundamental aspects of the game.

Any assistance you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

tbh, this is the first time anyone has a problem with updating to 1.2 version that I've heard...

I'm sorry but I've never heard of this problem thus far...hopefully someone will be along shortly with a resolution for you.

Welcome aboard :salute:

Are you sure it's not already at 1.2 if it was bought as a download?

Just to be sure: you are updating with the Game Updater, correct?

It is located in the SH5 Installation folder\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe

I'm exactly the same way, but funny thing is, between DRM and intellectual property rights being the way they are, even if you are holding a disk - you still don't 'own' anything. :D

Thanks for the welcome & responses, everyone. Answers:
-- sh5.exe Properties/Details: 1.0.5.0
-- purchased the game through Gamers Gate (Gold Edition)
-- I've tried the GameUpdater as well as online patches
-- GameUpdater finds a patch but errors out (detail below)

Thank you, everyone, for your time & help!

This patch without installer.. unpack the archive in the game folder and you must agree to all of the replacement - http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?z16dx1bsjmv95p5

Give it 10 years and digital content delivery will be the only way to buy software. Optical media and even solid state content delivery will be nonexistent.

FWIW, the Amazon download patches just fine if anyone else needs to know.

Thanks, William Munny, you answered my question. I'm going to buy the amazon digital download via the subsim link.

Do yourself a big favor, buy the DVD. In the long run you'll be glad you did.

AFAIK, the Amazon download puts exactly the same files on your hard drive that you get when you buy the DVD. It is not the same as Steam, or similar systems, that do not allow you to install an executable copy of the game, but instead provide a unexecutable file that can only be used after it is modified by a runtime patch from the Steam website. You can back up the Amazon install package to removable media and save it. That is a HUGE difference.

Then burn the download to a DVD for future use.

There is always the possibility a hard drive can become corrupted.

I know which has the bigger chance...make multiple disc copies then.

Should always back up your hard drive anyway.

That's true, but there are times that before you get to it your HHD can go poof.... right when you least expect it. ;) :yep:

If you buy a download - does it not live in your cloud forever (well as long as the company that sold you it does)

I luv clouds:D

Yes, at least with Amazon, you can re-download it as many times as you want.

Viper, Game Stop is saying that within the next 5 years all PC games will be downloads only. IMO that sucks for those of us that won't use gaming consoles like XBox and PS3. Companies are catering to gaming consoles and leaving us out in the cold. There will be a day that I just give up and quit computer gaming altogether with anything new. So save all those cd and dvd games you now have. They will come in handy if you're not overly bored with what you now have. ;)
