Homeowners Luo Baogen and his wife refused to allow the government to demolish their home in Wenling, Zhejiang province, China, claiming the relocation compensation offered would not be enough to cover the cost of rebuilding. So, adjacent neighboring homes were dismantled, and, bizarrely, the road was built around the intact home, leaving it as an island in a river of new asphalt.

When they have family get togethers there, I doubt the grandkids will be playing out in the yard.lol Craziest thing I've seen in a long time!

In the PRC there is a whole new meaning to the term 'You can't fight city hall'.

Surprised they didn't get forcibly evicted, but I guess they didn't want to risk another farmer incident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4eDYq5lUUw

People have always born the sacrifice of progress. China is going through a period that took us a hundred years in the space of a decade. It's got 21st century technology in an 18th century infrastructure.
When you think of all the people made homeless by the railways in Britain, the canal workers made unemployed, the navvies who died. Their blood and sorrow paved the way for our motorways and our transport network.

Of course, the big problem China is facing is the same one that the likes of Ireland, Spain and India are facing. They're building all these shiny new houses, roads and factories...and no-one is using them. :dead:

I can't help thinking this guy and his family will pay some kind of price some way down the line, especially as it has become public knowledge :hmmm:

He's still made a loss, but less of one than he would have originally.
