I've been away from sub simulators for almost a year now.
I also upgraded my computer since last time i tried SH5 so this time i can play it with graphics maxed out.
Obviously, because there were no patched since last time (no surprise), the bugs must still be there.
Were there any breakthroughs in mods that would actually make this game enjoyable since the last time i was here?
Hi! Welcome back to SubSim,:sunny: yes there are many more options today :yep: look at SH5 community.

Yes, it's very playable and lots of people love it. Also check out the SH5 Mods forum to see how good it really is.

i was pretty much in the same boat as the OP 2 weeks ago.
after reinstalling win7 and looking through my steam games list i wondered if it actually was worth playing now.
installed both Sh4 and SH5 and pimped then with mods before even starting them for the first time and i must say 5 with the right mods is just as good as for(or 3 for that matter) now with added benefit of gorgeous graphics.

Those are all from 2011. Surely some new mods were released since.

I was merely asking for people's opinion of this game as of 2012...

Ok, I'll try to explain you in a different way...
Define your understanding of "making the game enjoyable"...
Just to prevent the usual random miningless answer "Playable, fixed bugs", I will note that I've been enjoying the game for the past two years.

You didn't ask about new mods, you asked if the game was playable. Those threads are all by people who asked the same thing. If it was playable last year, it should be playable now.
Will you enjoy it? That's a matter of taste and opinion, but yes, it is certainly playable and certainly enjoyable.

Same here. Been away for about a year but have returned with a blazing fast PC to take SH5 for a dip. I gotta say, stock is about what I expected , but the mods seem to have progressed to the point where the game is actually enjoyable.
Hats off to all the hard working modders! Cheers! :salute:
