but when you do ask you get a fast response and the help you need :salute:
the creator of the program went out of buisness and shut down his software buisness website so thats why some links dont work since thats where the download was.
there are sticky threads that list the popular mods and modding tools and those links do work,.
if you ever find a bad link in a sticky thread then post there mentioning it and it will be fixed ASAP

Well then, why hasn't this problem been corrected?
I posted this same complaint almost a month ago, found HERE (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=199290). I would have thought the head snake for the "Downloads" section would have bothered to pass it on by now?
The most obvious thread for a new forum member to find information is the "SH4 Popular Mods, Tools..... etc." (the very "sticky" you're referring to) needs to be corrected. Why make new players jump through hoops trying to find information and solid links?? Especially sticky links posted by the head man himself?

Nobody makes them jump through hoops. They wouldn't think to read that thread first anyway.
I put it up here at Subsim Downloads some time ago. Razark posted a link, as do I every time the question is asked.

1) Why should JSGME be listed in the SH4 Popular Mods thread? It's GENERIC, which means it's for all games, and it is in the Subsim downloads section, under Utilities, which is where it should be. That there is a thread at all should probably be something to be grateful for, but you want to keep complaining about it. Maybe we should just take it down, if you hate it so much.
2) Neal was kind enough to put up that thread at all. It's not his job to go back through it every month and update everything. Doing that for every Mods forum would be a full-time job all by itself.
3) That leaves it to me, since my title is Mods Manager. The problem is, my job is to monitor the Subsim Downloads section and keep it reasonably organized, nothing more. The sticky threads are none of my business, or my concern.
4) Even if one of us went through all the Mods sticky threads on a regular basis and managed to keep everything up-to-date, most of the people who want to know where things are would start threads like this one anyway, and you would be posting links to the sticky thread, and expecting them to read the whole thing looking for that one mod. It's much easier just to post a link to the mod itself, which is what Razark did.
You are a great modder, and a very helpful member, but I think this constant harping on something that is never going to happen - mainly because it's much easier to do it the other way - is getting old.
Or if you're really that bothered by it, why don't you post a link in the sticky thread yourself, and every time someone asks you can then point to it. No, that would be at the end and not in the first post. Neal did put a link to the front page of the downloads section. Have you PMed him to ask him to put a link in his first post?

Now that I've had my little rant...
YOU WIN!!!
Neal and I had a nice discussion on Skype, and he's done what you asked. All the JSGME threads now have a link directly to the one here at Subsim Downloads. :sunny:

Yes, sometimes it is, and I apologize for that. This website is massive and managing it, even with the helpful members like Sailor Steve, Vendor, Webster and others, is a real handful. So, when someone like you points out a deficiency, we will fix it. Sorry about the confusion.:salute: And excuse the whiney excuses, lol, but that's pretty much how it is.:03:

Lol, well, it looks like you are spelling the mod name incorrectly, it is JSGME. When you search for JSGME (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=search), you get the mod in the fifth result. :)

Again, it's not intentional. I know for myself, I get about 40 requests for passwords, account issues, mod upload permission requests, forum errors, etc each day. So, yes, there are times when things are missed. :ping:
Steve and I have updated all the various threads where JSGME is posted in all three of the SH Mods forums, as well as the Popular Mods threads. If you see any we missed, please let me know!
And Steve and Laufen zum Ziel have their hands full too, keeping up with the Downloads section.

I don't follow you when you say "the JSGME window just pops up". You have JSGME installed into the main Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific folder, but no mods are in the left pane of JSGME?

Especially sticky links posted by the head man himself?
just to set the record straight, neal created the sh4 popular mods thread but i am the one who took over the responsability to put the mod lists together and try to maintain it so if anything was missed thats on me not neal. lets blame the right guy here :timeout:
anyone can PM me whatever issue you have and i will fix it or try to get it addressed as soon as i can. if its in another forum then look to see who created it and PM them or whoever is listed as the forum modderator and PM them, i can only fix things in forums i am listed in so please keep this in mind.
now to your complaint, there are 3 different replies in that thread with good links to get jsgme so the OP got the link he was looking for which took care of the original complaint so AFAIK the situation had been resolved.
i understand being frustrated with a slow response at times or an issue that goes unfixed but we have lives outside of subsim and neal is as buisy as a turkey trying to hide on thanksgiving so he gets to things when he can but the small stuff often takes time to get to.
neal has his hands full running the website so while everyone thinks its ok to PM him for every little thing its the forum modderators jobs to run the forums and neal runs the modderators and the admin of the whole website so he doesnt have time to fix everyones individual issues most of the time. for account issues, avatar issues, website administration issues, problems with a modderator, these things are issues to PM neal about but the rest is best handled and will be resolved quicker if handled by your forum modderators.
thank you for understanding

See if this helps you Dannyo666.
When I started playing again recently, with a fresh installation, I had to re-learn how to do the mods. This link is what I used.

Copy JSGME.ini, JSGME.exe, and the MODS folder into your SH$ installation directory. Put the mods in MODS, and then run JSGME.exe.

As razark said, those 5 files need to have been placed into your Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific game folder (wherever you have it). Looks like you put them into their own folder named "JSGME", found on your desktop. Don't just put the "JSGME" folder that's on your desktop into the Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific game folder. Those four files, and one folder (the MODS folder), need to each be added separately to the main game folder (you can copy/paste all five at once, just don't have them in a folder inside the main game folder).
Once pasted there, make sure you follow the directions found in the .txt document that refers to making a "snapshot" of your clean game file before adding mods to the game.
When you're ready to add mods to JSGME's "MODS" folder, open the compressed mod after you've downloaded it......have it "extracted" to the "MODS" folder (use the browse feature to point the extraction process to the main game folder, then to the MODS folder held within). The mod should show up on the left side of the JSGME app when you open it. Highlight the mod on the left side, and use the center arrow key to move it over to the "Activated" right side pane. Start the game once you've closed out of JSGME.
I see no jsgme_setup" file like in the guide here:http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...n-Step-by-Step (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/402710-MOD-Installation-Step-by-Step)
That "JSGME_setup" file you're talking about is what would have automatically put these same 5 files into the SH Wolves of the Pacific game folder. Since you have them on your desktop, just move them over to the game folder. Next time you download the JSGME app (or any mod you plan to download), why don't you "save" the download rather than "running" it from wherever you found the download? Save it in the computers "Download" folder. This way when you open the JSGME compressed download, you'll see the JSGME_setup file, and be given the chance to "browse" to your main game folder and have JSGME installed directly into it, not onto your desktop. You'll want to do this for the mods you'll try, so you can have them extracted to the "MODS" folder of JSGME. Saving the compressed mod files will require extra space to hold the download and the extracted mod, but you'll have it available if you wish to extract it again for some reason.
