Just curious. Has anyone out here played Ship Simulator Extremes? And what do you think of it?

Played the demo last year, gave you two scenarios - one a passenger ferry and the other a 'Greenpeace'-type demonstration boat where you had to spray water. Oooh!

As you can probably tell it didn't grow on me but what I think doesn't really matter to you - only you can tell.

This isn't watching paint dry, it is extreme watching paint dry.

I played the previous version, it can be boring when you are only controlling one ship or a small boat but things are more interesting when you have a container ship to dock and four tugs to use simultaneously etc. Multiplayer was also quite good as you could cooperate with others too berth large vessels etc.

This game sounds bad. Who wants to sail a merchant ship.

It's like Microsoft Train Simulator. Just no.

... who wants to fly virtual aircraft? Same deal.

Doesn't get more mindnumbing than a 8 hour trans-atlantic IFR flight. I absolutely love it, but really there's not much apeal there.

I love flying but I can't do an 8 hour flight. MSFS 2004 I just fly around on.

Don't make fun of me, but I "pretend" with that sim. Like flying my Huey Slick from Hanoi into a nice spot in the jungle to "pick up the troops" and back. Or an A-10 from Bagram to go attack "targets" which are just spots of ground that I maneuver against.

Most of my sims are combat sims though because I gotta blow stuff up.

One day I will do the UK to Leningrad return flight in a Vulcan that I've been promising myself. Dread to think how long it'll take, and I'll have to figure out how to get the bird off the ground without taking the ground with me first, but it's a mission I've been meaning to do.

Of course, in reality I'd have to deal with radars lighting me up, potential local nudets and stray Soviet interceptors, but in the absense of such a cold war gone hot sim it'll have to do.

I think there's a couple. Theres a RSR campaign for DW, theres the old Operation Flashpoint games, there's always the old RSR...

I dont know about flight sims. I wish combat was incorporated into MSFS 2004.

Yeah, that's about what my reaction was as well. I bought it on a wim, and pretty much reget it now. I've been on a campaign out on their forum to get some mods in the game, but VSTEP won't allow it and the comunity dosn't seem to want them either. Not a very friendly comunity out there either if you seem to be rocking the boat (no pun intended). I tried to explain that mods is why games like the SH series and Virtual Sailor as well as the Microsoft FS series have such great followings, but was informed it would be impossible to mod ships for the game, as one would have to know naval architecher and design to even be able to put a ship into the game. Though I expressed my disbelief in that theory and believed otherwise, I was told I was a know it all and didn't know what I was talking about, so I just gave up. I only blame myself that I didn't do my homework and check it out before I bought it. I obviously would have found out it was anti-mod and wouldn't have wasted my money. OMG, I just went out to their forum and VSTEP are going to release a new barge hauling sand in 2013! I can hardly wait!:-?

Oh aye, I know about those, I meant more strategic bomber flight. Heck, even with Flight sims you're pretty much limited to Wings Over Europe/Strike Fighters which is a very loose sim if you want to fight in the skies of West Germany or the North Atlantic in a Cold War gone hot scenario.

I guess it's because in reality the air war would have been a 3 day bloodbath followed by nuclear apocalypse. Not much you can put in there... :haha:

I fly cross country in FSX all the time. Love it.

I actually enjoy both of those.

It's the logistics of these games I enjoy.

Same reason you're here. Honestly the SH sims are the most boring of them all, yet we still play them.

Free-roaming the world stalking ships more boring than travelling in a relatively straight line between two places with little or no variation of direction?

Each to their own.
