View Full Version : Why no ships around?

Hey everyone,
I've been playing around with some mods and installled TMO 2.5 and RSRD. Do either of these reduce the number of ships in the game? The reason I ask is I literally spent 30 days game time running search patterns up and down the Luzon Strait and found absolutely nothing. Never happened before I added these mods. I realized it wasn't a bug because I got fed up, saved the game and blew flank speed into an enemy harbor at noon. There were ships there alright, but I haven't found any on the open water.

TMO reduces the ship traffic a little. RSRDC reduces the traffic to historical levels. Some of us just go near the star in the patrol zone, sit and speed up time compression, and wait.

The game is called Silent Hunter for a reason. Silent Gatherer doesn't have the same appeal.
Playing the same mods as you. I had the same issue when I was assigned the "the slot" in early 42. I went up and down, all around Salvo island and even sat at PD trying to detect something. Not one ship came through there for the whole 5 days.
I've already been through this campain once and really had a blast. As time goes on its going to be really challenging and fun. I just started again and read up on some tips in the forum here on where others found TF and convoy routes.
Give the mods a chance and keep reading through theses forums. I've learned tons of stuff to make this mod fun and help me through the tough missions.
Good luck and happy hunting.

Traffic is reduced because stock has too much. If you were seeing targets every day, it would be like playing a kids game; not challanging at all. With RSRDC, you should keep in mind shipping patterns will be changing as the war progresses. It is entirely possible to not see any targets for 30 days, in a particular area. There are strategies to searching, and just running around at cruising speed will not provide the best chance of finding targets.

It helps if you live near the ocean, and not adjacent to Lake Erie and Niagara Falls. Also, you have to load the game and activate it. Then, you may see some ships.
Then there is the fallback---the Maid of the Mist.
