New to the SH 4 game and just wanted to say hi. Tried the standard game but quickly installed TMO and probably going to installed SCAF which sounded useful. One thing I noticed difficulty wise between the standard and TMO version is that destroyers seem to be able to zero in on you even if you are only under 1/3 power at periscope depth (btw this was at night in rough seas). I imagine running deeper is the solution to this but wouldn't this effectively make recon missions impossible as they would lock onto you well before getting in range of the port?

Welcome BP.
Good to have you aboard. Yes, if you're just starting the game, TMO will be extremely challenging. The DD's are killers and seem to possess an uncanny talent for knowing where you are.
There are many threads on this subject around subsim, If you place a search for TMO/Destroyers or something like that you could be reading for a year. There are several pointers for working with these pests and I'm sure if you ask, you'll get plenty of info on how to deal with them.
Anyway. Good hunting and Good luck. :salute:

Welcome aboard Buffalo Pat. By the way, we need someone to polish the periscope lense. Would you go do that. I'll look through the eyepiece to see of you did a good job.

And while you're polishing the lens, keep an eye peeled for the mail buoy.
The crew gets mighty testy if we miss it.
